I was talking to my wife the other day and trying to describe to her why Stalker is my favorite horror survival game. I couldn't find the right words at first, just that there's something about Stalker, a feeling the game has, that no other survival game I've played can emulate. Finally, I figured out what it was. Stalker creates this place of pure, perfect freedom. (It seems obvious now because Freedom is literally in the game.) But the world that GSC has created, this Zone so separated from the outside world, gives everyone a new start. A place completely free of the responsibilities and pressures that life can place on us. A place where we can go and be reliant on just ourselves. Where the only things we have to worry about are what we will eat and where will we sleep. It's a beautiful and dangerous place, and it is absolutely free.
