Is watering plants overhead bad?

Everyone tells you, "You shouldn’t water plants overhead!" But what’s the real reason behind this advice? It's not because you'll fry your plants - ever heard of rain?!

Overhead watering can lead to leaf diseases for some crops, but more than anything it's a waste of water. Most of the water will evaporate off of the leaves and stems instead of making it to the soil.

A better solution is watering at the base, which we achieve using Hoselink’s Long-reach Shower Spray Wand.

I spray the leaves weekly or biweekly. Think it helps knock down some of the mites, and aphids without chemicals.

It’s usually not beating hot sun on a rainy day tho. You might get sunshine but it won’t nearly be as intense as a weeklong heatwave

Something I’ve started doing partly based on your advise and partly because it works really well is only watering my garden like once or twice a week but watering it really deeply by just plopping the hose down inbetween my plants and moving it every few minutes, my garden has never looked so good!!!

The droplets refraction is real especially on flower sites but it only becomes an issue with very harsh direct sunlight in hot weather which doesn't happen when raining since rain comes from clouds.

I always do both, overhead and under
My plants are very happy. I have no complaints. But I could watch you water plants all day. 😂🎉😊

My dogwood tree preferred to be watered from the top. I watered from the bottom for a couple of years, and the tree stayed small. I started watering my lawn with a sprinkler, and thus, the tree. That thing shot up about a foot a year and had twice as many blooms ❤

Better water in the morning or evening when it’s not too hot plants soak up more water at those times

I don't have a garden yet, but I'm just getting into keeping plants, and I'm so excited to learn more.

Many plants, especially small sized palms like parlor palms, really like having their leaves watered.

When it rains it is generally over cast and cooler. Out of Oklahoma I’ve watered my garden mid day and come back a few hours later to see brown spots burnt into my plants exactly where beads of water sat a few hours previously…

Thank you for this very good tip. I have been watering my plants overhead, then the soil. I will do the opposite from now on.

Watering wands are the best. Great dispersion of the water, soaks in nicely.

I use a misting system but at the base of the plants found it to be amazing

Thanks for this video. I can't tell you how many people I've said this to as well and they just ignorantly keep insisting to the contrary. The sun isn't out when it rains they say. I always leave disappointed with their intelligence.

Here in the central valley, we spray the leaves early in the morning, in the hot, dry summer, when the spider mites come out. They like dry conditions and we get no moisture for 6 months out of the year. As long as the leaves dry off before sunset, it helps.

That's what my grandparents told me and I don't believe but after watching your video clip now I know the truth is at the base of the plants. Medical student Malaysia 🙏👍
