When I was still a schoolkid in Texas, I remember asking my mother why the government would want to cut education funding (I'd seen an article on the front page at breakfast). She said, "Because stupid people are easier to control." BOOM. My mother saw where that crap was going, over forty years ago. Every time I've repeated that sentiment, I've been treated like a crazy conspiracy theorist. So glad to see the truth here today, being spoken out loud by highly credible people. Thank you!

I have come to appreciate how Ari really promotes the poetic genius of many Rap artists. The profound political/social commentary embedded in most Rap lyrics are often over looked by the mainstream and the literary skill of the artists never really celebrated.

Yes there in is the problem. Reading is a big part of how we got here. My mother taught me to read before I got to school.

The illiteracy rate in this country is a crying shame. School budgets have been systematically cut for decades. I am in my 60s and I had a 27 year old ask me how to spell debris. People need to stand up and demand an overhaul of the education system. Young people get out and vote, this is about your future.
