Debian 11.3 Bullseye Minimal Install

preview_player
Показать описание
Here I am installing Debian 11 with 2 partitions and zram swap.
The goal is to install Debian with a minimal install. No desktop environment.
The minimal install is so I can use the scripts written to tiling windows managers mostly, but maybe custom desktop or two in the future.

Software:
Distro: Debian Stable Linux

Thank you for this fantastic tutorial! I recently have struggled with Ubuntu/Mint/etc. running too slow in my VM, and a Minimal Debian installation is exactly what I needed. Your set of videos are super helpful to me, and I hope to become a hardcore Debian user going forward! Hope you continue to add to this great series.

I just found your channel and I love that you focus a lot on Debian. I've been a linux user for 15 years and have only used Debian as a desktop distro on and off over the years. I'm trying to stop using Mint and use Debian instead but I find that for some reason I'm having issues with trying to get Nvidia drivers and slick-greeter and plymouth to work well together. It's so easy to give up and just go back to a ready made distro. I'm gonna keep trying though.

Drew - great vid. I never went down the "expert" mode but reviewing what you have done (to me) seems not much different than going through the normal install. Obviously not installing anything X related. I too put a few vids out. albeit a good bit of time elapsed. Like you, Deb is my daily driver but with Sid. Have been doing that for many years and also did a 2 year stint with Arch. Anyways, nice work and its nice to see a Debian-centric channel

Excellent tutorial. Lots of depth. Are you focusing on desktop setups or will you be covering server application setups too?

I love Debian Stable. But if you want newer applications, you could go with Debian Testing. But I'm just fine with the behind versions. If anything I need updated for a good reason. I would just build from source to get the newest one that way. I rarely have to do that, but that is a option to take.

I have installed debian (minimal) on my laptop, there seems to no internet connection, nor is network manager available. I tried the WPA supplicant WPA/WPA2 section from debian documentation but the DHCP client was not installed and attempting to connect to the internet threw an error stating that my wlan is soft blocked.

Thank you. What is the difference between a minimal install and installing from a live ISO?

I built a new PC to play Steam games thanks to Proton on Debian. During installation I do not create the root account but an administrator account "sudo". At the end of the terminal installation I create a standard user account that I use to start Steam and play games. I need to buy a new nvme SSD with more space for games and I would like to format and partition it the right way "separate partitions" to optimize the system best for games. How do you recommend me to partition a 1tb nvme SSD?

Is there a Debian distro image that is headless. Something like Raspbian OS Lite. I find the Debian website very confusing, and not user friendly. I have a old Intel nuc and want to run docker and open media vault. It seems that Ubuntu is not debian, and OMV does not like that.

Do you need to prepare usb stick somehow or just download iso on it. I did just that and the computer did not recognise to boot from the stick

Is it possible to do a minimum install of Debian 11 Bullseye for ARM64 (Raspberry Pi 4)? I already have it running, but it has so much software I don't need or want. Thanks! New sub btw!

I'm gonna try this and add Fluxbox, but is there a really, really stable distro with just the minimal or net install than is without systemd? The closest I found is antiX, but i cannot seem to get it installed in a partition, but have put it on flashdrives and VMs several times - hoping to learn so that I can get it on "bare metal".
Is there minimum systemd-free distro? I am trying Devuan and even its closest kin Fluxuan, but they aren't as stable or error-free as antiX.
