The solvent is just alcohol. You can use any Alcohol to remove alcohol based “permanent” marker.

Alcohol you can just use rubbing alcohol if the permanent marker is alcohol based which most are

Alcohol takes permanent marker off of many things ( like tables) as well.

My mom has always done the pepper thing. Didn't know it was such a revolutionary idea.
Edit: Also figured out the permanent marker thing in 4th grade, lol... that one saved us from a lot of trouble. The metal wire in the mask is common knowledge; I can't imagine anyone that couldn't figure that out.

I didn't know hipsters drink out of mason jars I just always attributed that to my family being southern and drinking tea. That and if you get hemadr liquor like moonshine or whiskey it's usually in that.
