I know the scene is a little problematic for a few reasons, but I just really like how Ben and Johnny are still close, that they were still happy to see each other. Even to the point of Johnny being a little bit flirty with Ben, there. And Johnny's look of happy delight, seeing that Ben got married, was quite lovely (and a nice pay-off, given the message he sent Ben, all those years ago, telling him to be himself because life's too short otherwise. Ben got the message).

Either Johnny's completely in the dark about the kind of man Ben's become in the last several years and hasn't bothered to get details and ask questions (like a lawyer would), or he's aware and despite how bad it all is he doesn't care because Ben's his old mate & lover and he's missed him so much. The hopeful flirting indicates the second.

Happy for everyone who likes this and finds it a good resolution, but sorry to moan, for me this outcome is massively disappointing. Context: I'm a former viewer from the 2000s-2010s (stopped watching c.2017) who really liked and responded to Ben/Johnny as teens, as I am about their age and gay too. Some silly nostalgic part of me always hoped they'd be eventual endgame, or find their way back together, even platonically. Now, Ben's character has been ruined beyond repair, shot past the moral event horizon, and the interesting potential of him ever reconnecting with Johnny on any intimate meaningful is dead in the water, so this scene and s/l really feels like two fingers up to people like me. EE were on the brink of bringing prodigal fans back into the fold after all these years with a Johnny return and a Ben redraw, but sadly there's no way back from this point now. It's a pity. Plus with respect to Bowden & Clay and all their hard work, personally I didn't ever connect with Ballum after that took off, and just 'got' and preferred Ben 5.0/Harry Reid more, so unless Reid returns and Ben is reset to that there's nothing the writers' room can do to rehab him in my eyes. All the best to the new actors and the departing ones, anyway, no hard feelings toward them whatsoever (it's just a gig and a wage to them, they don't write or plot the nonsense).
