Born, raised, currently live in Tennessee and I've never seen grits that look like that.

The thing about grits is that, like ricotta cheese, absorbes the flavors of everything around it. I love grits with butter, salt, garlic, and chedder.

If grits are being mistaken for custard, then they are most DEFINITELY not prepared correctly.

First if you have to chew any green leaf veggies for awhile then it wasn't cooked right. NOBODY from the south use chicken stock as "pot liquor". You flavor the water by cooking smoked meat until they fall apart in the water then add whatever greens you plan to cook. If you have to chew more than 3 times.. "it ain't done" 😎🤗🤗😎

Pecan pie? Peach cobbler? Barbecue, either Texas sauce style or Tennessee dry rub style? Fried okra? Homemade biscuits and sausage gravy? Corn fritters? Mississippi fried catfish? Cheese grits? Kansas brisket?

NONE of these things???

From the New Orleans, Louisiana area. That ain't gumbo and those grits were tragic. The Irish side of my ancestry is crying that I can't can't help these kids see what they're missing. Jaysus.
