Side note: VirtualDub can only merge videos together if they are the same FRAME RATE (the FPS which the video was recorded at). If they aren't the same frame rate and you want to merge them, you have a couple of options. Use the same software mentioned earlier, FormatFactory, to change the Frame Rate to the same one. You can also use Quicktime. Just open the first video using it, move the slider to the end, and then drag n' drop the second into Quicktime, press close, and choose to Save.

@Flavor88 it's because the AVI that VirtualDub outputs is uncompressed...which is why it renders so fast. It exchanges compression for speed.

I don't use virtual dub for my productions, but I do use it fpr simple tasks, it's great for quicky editing out commercial breaks in things I recorded off the TV. SUPER is also a great video converter.

@kingxd123 like i said at the beginning of the video right after i said "why would i use this as opposed to other programs", the reason is because of speed. "other programs" includes windows movie maker here. Good luck trying to edit a 2 hour movie in Windows Movie Maker in less than an hour.

To avoid large video in the end of joining 2 videos, just go on Video -> DirectStreemCopy and enable that option, now if you join video1(10mb) and video2(15mb), final video3 will be 25mb :)

you can just make the file size smaller by going to the video tab on virtualdub, then click compression, and select a compression because it is set default on uncompressed

Format Factory and Virtualdub are great.
I just merged a 20GB video file (Fraps makes large ones). And now FormatFactory is converting it.
Thanks for the tips.

To size down the video size, go to Video -> Compression and select a compressor. Then when you save it, it will compress it using the selected compressor.

@MrCoolcolombianguy You can press CTRL+P and change the codec. WIthout changing the codec, it will keep it uncompressed (leaving it in a large format). I suggest using DivX or Xvid codec

@Renuzitus um, u can try to drag the clip into Windows Movie Maker, then publish it, and Compress it to XX-MB, then after that u can convert it back to avi im pretty sure the size will shrink down

Good you mentioned the program, but...
You can open any file in virtualdub by just creating an avisynth file:
open notepad and type in DirectShowSource("PATH TO THE FILE ON YOUR COMPUTER") and change the ending of the text file to .avs
Also you can select a compressor (like the free Xvid) und Video -> compression

@BRishal i already did a tutorial on that.
