When I broke my finger I had to have surgery to set it with pins. The surgeon came to me in pre op specifically to write her initials on the finger I confirmed as being the broken one. It's something so simple, but it legitimately makes so much sense, because that is not a mistake that can be allowed to happen.

That is exactly what happens... In some medical fields left and right are considered from the patient point of view while in others from the doctor's point of view
This is why years ago there were plenty of "wrong sidd operations" and that's exactly why nowadays doctors mark the side or the limb with an "X" so that the surgeon knows where to operate
