When I go on holiday I just switch all the switches off and don't bother unplugging. A bit easier than unplugging everything.

Simple proper design. Americans bless them.

Welcome to the First World. We've had 3 pin plugs since 1928, square pin with a fuse since 1947; although sockets with switches have been around since the 1930s they didn't become mandatory until 1967.
No, you're not using energy if you leave the socket switched on because there is no appliance connected. You're only using power if you leave an appliance plugged in on "standby" mode, and that costs very little - about £32 a year for a household's worth.

Just to add - notice the top pin - the earth pin - is longer? Also the other two pins - live and neutral - have an insulating sheath near the plug case? These are safety features. If pushing the plug into a live socket (switched on) the earth pin connects first. When the live and neutral pins connect, the sheaths prevent little fingers from connecting with the current and getting a shock. These plugs are incredibly safe.

To be fair, I often leave most of my outlets turned on. It's just handy to plug and play. However certain appliances, don't even have a switch (like my frier in the kitchen) and that can only be controlled by the outlet 💁🏻‍♂️ Plus I like to leave cooking things off at the wall in case one of my children accidently turns it on and burns themselves.

And our voltage is twice as powerful as U.S voltage

Imagine looking down the wall at the plug. If it's on, the top of the switch is visible.

UK 3 pin plugs are the safest...by far.
If you drive a car, you’d expect to switch it on before using it and off afterwards, no difference with electrical equipment at home, so very simple....

Many British users in Britain don't switch off at the wall because they can't be bothered. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Don’t be so harsh on yourself, the number of times I’ve plugged something in and forgotten to actually switch it on… I’m British btw…

Does that mean US plugs are not earthed?😮

You seem to have forgotten that this tiny island is why you speak English? We were inventing things before America was 'discovered' and colonised.
