7 years later and I finally understand terminal Hacking.

Just try words 3 times randomly, exit terminal and repeat...

In this case I think 'SELL' was a likeness of 1 simply because 'E' was NOT the correct letter to be looking at. In the word 'SENT' the 'S' was correct being the first letter in the word, and the 'T' was correct in that it was the fourth letter in the word. Hence 'SENT' having a likeness of 2. So 'SHOT' having the 'S' at the start and 'T' at the end, make it correct. That being said, 'SELL' was a viable option since 'E' COULD have been one of the correct letters. Thanks for the tutorial though! Those duds and replenishes will definitely come in handy!

Thank you for this. I'm new to the fallout series (just got fallout 4) I have about 24 hours logged in right now and with terminals, I sort of understood after just playing a lot but what I didn't know is that the likeness letters would be the same AS WELL AS in the same position as the target word. Knowing that makes all the difference and I may be able to actually figure these out now without getting lucky or ultimately guessing.
