Met Albert Collins backstage in Knoxville in early 90s. What a humble genuine gentleman

Went on a tour of the Gibson hollow body shop in Memphis last year and they told us only one guy has been painting their burst patterns for the last 15 years, it's quite an art to do it well. They have several people doing solid colors, but they really talked this one guy up. Too bad I can't remember his name, really too bad they moved out of Memphis... Love the vids Dan!

Sir you are an inspiration to anyone like myself and I’m sure others who love to work on their own gear and would also want to paint their own guitars 🎸

I know this is a strange comment but this video is ultra high definition. I've viewed a lot of the other StewMac videos but this one just pops. Dan, as usual, does a great job explaining this procedure.

I'd love to see Dan do some more restoration stuff like the vintage Tele. I recently did the same thing with an old custom shop Strat body I found.

Very informative video. I particularly like the details which you understand by seeing rather than interpreting in written steps in say, a book. Not dissing books here, it's just that as we all know, a picture, (even more a video!) is worth a thousand words... Excellent job, Mr Erlewine!

Awesome, I have a 1993 Fender strat that was done by the previous owner in a bad sunburst finish for an srv replica and now finally found a great how-to and finish my Fender Strat

Friend of mine had a Les Paul Jr back in the day that had some spattering in the sunburst finish, and I always thought that was part of its charm.

Please make this a series. I’d love to know how to roll my own metallic nitro finishes

Cool video! Good to see how to use the Preval's with Lacquer. Unfortunately though I think a real airbrush or paint spray gun would be needed to get the sunburst looking like a gradient instead of the "thousands of dots" look we have here.

Getting a pat on the back from Dan must make you feel like a million bucks.

Put the paper 2 cm up from the surface, then spray it. It will auto sunburst evenly

I just stumbled upon this, anything that Dan Earl Wine says I certainly want to hear it. I support Stuart McDonald 100% and I buy most everything tool wise and even parts if they’re not way overpriced from this company, I believe in what they’re doing, and I think they’re awesome.

Awesome nothing is cuter than a Stratocaster in its original colours.

Did you do anything to preserve the signature or is Sharpie durable enough?
