The Insane Story of Buffett’s Most Important Stock Pick

Показать описание

In 1951, Warren Buffett bought 350 shares of a stock, for $10,282 and less than a year later he sold those shares for $15,259, a 48% profit.

Buffett was just 21 years old at the time and while the trade might seem trivial, it’s the series of events in Buffett’s life that year, molded the investing strategy that would later make him billions of dollars.

This is one of the rare moments where we get to see into the mind of a young Warren Buffett, because he was writing about it in great detail as it happened.

They say you learn more from failures than success, but in Buffett's case, it seems he learned how to master success before his first gray hairs. 🧠✨

Nice to have all living costs covered and have a spare 100k to invest at 21. Very priviledged!
Also his dad had a brokerage firm, so he was introduced to the business early on👏

Was Geico already a big Company at the time or was it a small cap when Buffet bought his first shares?

Benjamin Graham - og of value investing.

Woz was apprenticed by this G.

There was no downturn in market to take advantage of. Everything pumped.

Benjamin Graham accidentally violated sec rules by buying 50% of geico. He had to sell. Woz knew Graham made good picks.

Benjamin Graham chairman, the 10 board of directors owned a lot of stock.

Buffet bought a book on insurance - no physical assets and no way of the industry being replaced. Insurance also hadn't been caught up with market speculation.

Woz meets assistant to geico president. Collision is the most profitable line of business.

Deflation helps insurance.

Geico USP: no agents, cheaper prices & higher profits.

Competitors are unlikely to try this USP. That's an economic moat.

Hey Hamish - I’ve considered Incogni before, how’s your experience been? The downside seems to be it is “never ending” rather than a once and done thing.

Why did you say "Late Charlie Munger" when they were still quite young when they met and started to have an influence on one another?

Buffett isnt that good of an investor...

He gains 48% profit on $10, 282, I lose 100% of my wealth on Hawk coin. Whos the real investor now?

Math aint mathing here. Having that money at age 21 sounds like a full savings of an average 35 years old adult who went all in in 1 share. That almost a price of fking house.
Im 27 with $200k now and if I do that move and I did not win. I would go career mode ASAP!
