Jim Braude was joined by Boston Public Radio co-host and Boston Globe columnist, Margery Eagan; Boston Globe Spotlight team reporter Michael Rezendes; and founder of the New England chapter of Survivors Network of Those Abused, Phil Saviano —also a church abuse survivor — to discuss the emotional toll of the church abuse scandal after Cardinal Bernard Law’s death.

I remember you Cardinal Law. Everybody in Boston wishes we could forget you. You need to be held accountable f.a.

What this didn't really address was the floodgate opened up and showed just how pervasive all this abuse was around the WORLD, not just in Boston and the US. It was a global cancer and the list of countries and cities etc was shown in the end credits of the Spotlight film.

Australia’s Cardinal George Pell was convicted and sentenced to 7 years in jail but just recently his conviction was overturned and he was released. Pell knew about all the abuse in his many parishes and he hid and covered it all up for years. Eventually he himself was charged with sexually abusing two young boys, one who subsequently committed suicide. Pell’s free now but his career is finished and his an old man. He claims his innocence. So many victims across the world. Pell covered up so much abuse here and he participated in the abuse. The damage his done is irreversible.

Jim Braude is one of the best in the business--and he knows how to hold a discussion on even this most difficult moment. And thank goodness for people like Phil Saviano, whose courage and tenacity informed everything that transpired about this horrendous scandal.

I don't think that this went on because the bishops were ignorant of the harm done to children. I believe that the Church is full of corruption and blackmail which often prevents any of the guilty facing justice.

When I was in a Catholic school many years ago, our Archbishop was driven around in a big black long Cadillac. Also he lived by himself with a housekeeper in a huge house with spires outside the city on a big expanse of land with trees. He set an atrocious example and lived in luxury.

It IS disgusting and it IS a slap in the face to survivors! How can Catholics continue to go to churches where this is covered up by leadership and no accountability? It is beyond me why there isn't a mass exodus of parishioners from the Catholic church. Is is possible the parishioners themselves are having the attitude of "Let sleeping dogs lie" because all these offenses did not involve their OWN family members? Those parishioners with that silence in essence become enablers themselves.

I concur with Phil - what happened to Law and the lack of accountability is an insult. May they find their strength through their trauma.

We direly need to teach rational skepticism in all high schools as a required course. And financial literacy also.

I am glad that I watched this video. It pleases me to know how much this offended others like myself.

No Matter how much luxury was showered on him while alive...
No Matter the number of Papal Blessings given to him in death, ...
No Matter ALL the prayers prayed for his soul...

History will FOREVER remember the victims of paedophile priests...
History will FOREVER remember those paedophile priests...
History will FOREVER remember Law for his role in protecting those paedophile priests..

There will NEVER be a moment where he will be thought of as a representative of Jesus Christ...
There will NEVER be a moment where he will NOT be blamed for the deaths of ALL the Patrick McSorley's...

There will NEVER be a moment where he will be judged to have lived a meaningful life...

If that doesn't fit the definition of hell, I don't know what will...

The only thing he was entitled to was a pine box at an undisclosed location. That’s it. Nothing more. The money spent on his funeral should have gone to the victims if not organizations designed to help them find justice.

All of this could have been avoided had the bishops addressed the sexual abuse in a timely, effective manner. But no: lie, deny, and fail to remember.

Why does this happen over and over agin around the world! Why top business persons, important persons taking the side of the perpetrators. They protect the abusers. All we who follow the true God can do is leave everything in God's very capable hands. God bless us all and safe us from these devils.

The scary part in all of this scandal, is that it continues to go on in the Catholic Church! 👎🏻

The flames of Hell were kindled a little hotter the moment Cardinal Law dropped dead.

He will be judged at the Judgement seat along with everyone else, including the Pope.

And poor Cardinal O'Malley, he's a good man but the Pope has put him aside since he spoke out about accountability for homosexual abusers in the Church. #Pontifex

"Yes, his church is full of sinners not all Catholics will go to heaven (Matt. 7:21–23).
Satan made it his mission to infiltrate Jesus only church he built. Matthew 16:18 Our faith must be in Jesus alone.

"The world expects all Catholics to be holy cus they associate the church with Jesus. who is holy" ~ Jun Mescallado
