90 Hz for the base variant should have been a sweet spot 😌

Here is my take on 60hz. I have Samsung's s22 Ultra; I then heard that the base iphone 15 came with 60hz and like a lot of people I thought, "What the hell, Apple?"

I'm big tech geek, I love Android and iPhones iOS, so I thought I'd try a little experiment with my own phone. I went into the settings and dropped the screen resolution down to 1080p and the screen refresh rate down to 60hz and then went to bed. I woke up the next day and completely forgot I did it (had a few beers before crashing). Towards the middle end of the day, I was curious as to why I had so much battery after being on and off my phone watching YouTube and using social media apps and then my brain turned on and I remembered what I did the night before in the settings. That shows a lot.

There is a noticeable difference when you're using two phones side by side, one with 120hz and one with 60hz, but if you've never used 120hz or decide to get an iPhone with 60hz, you will get used to it fast. Plus, iPhones iOS is so well tuned that a huge percentage of people really won't notice. Is 120hz nice to have? Sure. Would it bother me switching to an iPhone with 60hz? Probably not. Their screens are gorgeous.

For me I've found the 6.1 inch iPhones to be the perfect size (from the 12 and up) as the normal 11 and XR are bigger due to the thicker bezels

Thank you. We need more YouTubers to say stuff like this. So many YouTubers make a huge push for the iPhone pro and completely ignore the other models. Same situation with the iPad mini and iPad Pro where YouTubers completely ignore or shit on the base model or Air

as someone with small hands the mini getting discontinued is the worst thing, even the now "base" modell sizes are slightly uncomfy for me to hold and use, quiet happy I picked up the iPhone 13 mini last year and once that stops working and apple still hasn't gone back to making a mini version I definitely will look at other companies

As someone who’s dealt with carpal tunnel, I can say my rain reason for choosing the 15 over the 15 pro is because of the weight of the device, not only that but the pros tend to overheat extremely fast, I went from a 13 pro to a 15 plus and I don’t regret losing 120hz. 120hz absolutely destroys battery life, and I tend to be outdoors in a valley, so this was a no brainer.

I’m gonna upgrade to a 15 because I want USB-C and currently I have an iPhone 12 the base model and it is not doing well whatsoever it’s been about three years. I don’t want anything larger than the base model 15 so this is fantastic.

I’m glad that you are covering this because I am not technologically knowledgeable😅

It’s so appreciated Austin!!

i really want Austin to drive the 15 Pro just to see whether the battery performance would suffice for a day in Austin's life.

I'm still using my 2018 iPhone XR 64GB with his original battery, this 15 could be a upgrade for me

At 800$, skipping out on the 120 hertz is dumb. Its not that its not 'ok' to use, its that they think its ok to do that. As an android user, I'd be very upset if the next samsung dropped a base model at 800$ that didn't have it. Its not really excuseable. So, to be clear, I'm not upset, just disappointed in their decision-making.

I’m the same way, I’m using the 13 mini as well and love it. However that usb c port makes all the difference with compatibility with my various iPads and PC so I’m taking the jump to upgrade to the regular 15 😅

I got the mini as my first iPhone. The size is great, but the battery life is terrible. I admit the phone is too big, but I overcompensated for that battery and went for the 15 pro max.

As someone who went from 13 mini to base model 15 this year i think the 15 is a solid phone. The matte back is soft and grippy. The camera is great, a bit of an improvement. Screen brightness is great for arizona sun. I just wish they had a mini for size. I like small phones. Went from iphone 4, 5c, 5s to pixel 3 to 13 mini, then to 15 and i till say that the mini was my favorite bc of size to screen ratio

6:30 When has anyone ever needed more than 60hz on a cellphone? Never. Thats when. Not one single time in the entire history of the known and unknown universes, has anyone EVER needed more than a 60hz display on a CELLPHONE. STOP WASTING MONEY!

I just do not understand the complaints about a 60hz screen. All of my screens, absolutely every single one, is 60hz. My TV, my plethora of laptops, my phones (the one I use and the graveyard), every single one of them has a 60hz display. Never once have I thought "Gee, I really wish the refresh rate was higher!" It's perfectly fine, 60hz is adequate for the vast majority of people. Now, is there some professional use cases where you might need higher refresh rates? absolutely, and those people are covered by the Pro version of the phone.
120hz displays result in a worse battery life and longevity overall too, why would I want them to put something more expensive into my phone that is going to make it break faster just so animations can look *slightly* more pleasing to the eye?

I’ve used my 13 mini for a couple years now, and I really do enjoy it a lot. It’s a shame that Apple stopped making it, and probably never again given how the market is shifting towards bigger and bigger phones. But tbh, in these past two years, my use cases for a phone has shifted significantly to a point where a bigger battery and display is actually useful for me.

I can still technically do everything I need to do on a 13 mini and I’m impressed with how capable it is. But at this point, it still feels more a challenge compared to if I just use a 6.1” regular iPhone. I still wouldn’t go for a plus or Pro models because they are overkill and kind of overpriced for my use cases. But the base 15 does seem like to be a good fit for the tasks that I do on a phone. Still unsure if I’ll upgrade though because I really do like my current phone for the novelty of it. I guess I just have to consider whether the practicality of keeping the novelty going is more that to just getting a bigger iPhone that can do the tasks I need to do better
