In today's video, I review and look back at Mario Kart 64, to determine whether the first-ever 3D Mario Kart game has held up after all these years. So is Mario Kart 64 a Smash Hit? or should I Trash it? Find out now!

4:10 Actually in this game the light characters have better speed AND acceleration, their downsides are that they spin out super easily if they hit heavy characters and have poor handling which makes them pretty tricky to control.

I like the part where it says “ten years to get picked up” because it reminds me of Nathaniel Bandy saying things like the loading screen in SSBWiiU taking ten years to load up.

The only Mario kart I’ve never played, was hoping to try it on the n64 expansion, but decided not to pay the extra money. I’ll have to find another way.

This was my childhood Mario Kart along with Wii. I love this game because it’s jank and it makes playing more fun crazy. The sounds are also just part of my life’s soundtrack.
Play it if you can and play it again if it’s been a while.

Although I don't believe this game has aged well, it's still a blast to play. I remember when I bought it on the Wii U virtual console when I was younger and I thought I'd made my Wii U's quality glitch to really low 💀

I am not joking when I say that this Yoshi valley is my favorite. I just love it’s mystery. Mario kart 8 practically tells you where to go and where you are, but Mario Kart 64 just leaves it up to you, giving no placements and a terrible map. Something is lost when you take away the mystery of the course.

Great video! I think this is a fair and balanced review, although I could have used another 20 minutes or so on Wario stadium. Nothing was better than hitting someone with lightning right as they were about to make that jump off the ramp, so they couldn't make it across. Also, your English teacher sounds like a cool guy...

Nice video, but judging by the gameplay I see you forgot one important thing that explains a lot of your troubles with the controls and some of the tracks - DRIFTING! If you'd know how to drift properly (which is basically every curve btw.), you'd have a WAY better time in this game and fall off the track way less. It gives you way more control and also some little boosts sometimes. You just need to know how to do it properly, but it's really easy if you know.

This game may not have aged well, but I do see it as an adored classic, definitely a step forward! You said good complaints about Yoshi Valley, my one complain about that course is that the game doesn't show who's in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, the reason, and you mentioned "it's due to the N64's limitations" That's so weird! 😅

I think aside from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe this is my favorite Mario Kart game. I'm sure part of it is nostalgia because it's the one I grew up playing, but I do also genuinely think the gameplay is among the fastest paced and most challenging. I love the track selection and the simplicity of the game, having tons of different karts and gliders and characters with different stats is awesome, but sometimes I just want all that fluff to be stripped back so it's really a pure contest of who is the better racer. Also the battle mode in this game is the best in the whole series, I'll stand by that statement till the day I die.
