I love the ending. Two monotone speakers agreeing with Chomsky in the superiority of speaking motonously

Eric Weinstein is a great example of someone who struggles SEVERELY with explaining things simply

I bookmarked this particular clip in four of my different folders. This should be watched over and over with some frequency.

Eric Weintein comes to mind, but you have to consider the complexity of the subject. He describes all manner of subjects completely clearly, like politics and economics, and you can follow along, but with GU I'm immediately lost. I just think this subject is so specific and complex, that one level deep you're already going over almost everybody's heads. And I'm fine with this. Maybe in 10years someone will put this into words for us normies.
Also, english is my second language and it's not like I studied physics in the first place, not to mention in foreign language :D

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication

100% agree with this. There are people whose identity is based upon sounding smart and that is most academics. I am a layman and I read a lot of scientific content and the stuff that tries to sound "intelligent and official and academic", makes my eyes glaze over and I just don't read it. A great example is if you go to Arxiv and just do a search on some topic and then look at the titles of 99% of the papers that come up. Where is the desire garnered in the audience to read any of the papers based upon the complexity of the titles? There is none. KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid. And yes, the more eloquent, the more someone can make their BS seem to be the official account.

I think being humble is a losing strategy. Not useless, but losing strategy. It clearly lost. Look who rules our world? Look how the world looks like? (and many of them also got killed) The humble geniuses are not lost in history, but they lost the battle while being alive. I think a combination of no-bull-shit & being humble is the way to go. ~ Each at the right time.

But there is value in rhetoric and flamboyance. The theatrical quality of a presentation may be uniquely insightful.

Not if you study philosophy. As longer you explain as more thoughts are created. We aren't robots

I remember Chomsky once said that he is not interested in persuasion but only argument. Persuasion is a performative activity, whereas arguing is a substantive one.

... Someone has already mentioned this in comments but characters like Eric Weinstein are great candidates of persuasion or complex jargon. Who knows how many more acronyms he'll coin ... DISC is one of the funniest ones 🤣

Jordan Peterson is perhaps the greatest word salad specialist of our generation.

But there's not just clear, to the point writing and show-offy writing. Especially when describing a mood or feelings of a character they can be incredibly complex and conflicting and vague and if you're trying to convey that in a poeticly truthful way, write all the words you want. It depends.

I do think people abuse rhetoric in place of substance. Where it is meant more as a seasoning to substantive communication.

Everytime a English teacher taught kids to read this and put it in your own words I feel it went too far and now we describe things that don't match reality
