“Think of decorating your living room like putting together a great outfit”…..I love this! (However……some people walking around in the stores….they don’t get it….if you know, you know). Thanks for a great video. I love your content. And you have a very smooth voice which makes it easy to listen to.

A good friend of mine was a Furniture Row manager for many years, he hasn't got an iota of design sense and even he says the idea that furniture must match was a lie created by the furniture manufacturers to get people that only wanted one piece of furniture to buy a whole set.

Thank you, Reynard for finally busting those myths! I got tired of everyone putting their feet up on the coffee table and now I use a nice upholstered storage ottoman on casters as my coffee table. I love that it's multifunctional (as opposed to a coffee table)...storing my throws, and simply placing a tray on top for my book and/or tea. Plus having it on casters, I can roll over to any chair in my living room to prop up my feet if I choose. 😊

I haven't owned a coffee table for thirty years. I prefer furniture that has multiple uses. I asked a lady on Etsy to make me a small footstall and add a wooden removeable top to it so it could be used to rest drinks on it. It also acts as an additional small seat when I have company. It is handmade in Harris tweed, so it looks beautiful, too.

We moved into a house with a narrow-ish living/dining room and it made so much more sense to not have a coffee table. Our kids can enjoy the space so much more, and we have a nest of tables that we can utilise anywhere in the room without making it feel crowded.

Neutral colors oh Lord! During Covid lockdown our friends with neutral colors in their homes were going nuts. Talk about sensory deprivation. Glad my wife knew how to tastefully add great colors together both inside and outside patio areas were great. Gray is for battleships and penitentiaries by the way . Lol.

I didn't own a TV for almost 9 years but decided to buy one for our guests, so it stays in the guest room. Great point to bring up Reynard😊 2:04

At 74 I stayed in my home & found a wonderful live in care assistant who is very trustworthy & it is turning into the best decision for my seniority.

Love this channel but it would be fantastic if some real life situations could be filmed so we could see before and after.

I always enjoy your videos. I love decorating and your guidance helps so much. I am somewhat creative, and i find your suggestions easily adaptable to my own space. The thing i have always struggled with is including storage in small spaces that looks good, but i'm getting there with your accessible ideas. I always had trouble really identifying my style, and I feel like I've finally found it thanks to you. 😊

Reynard is explaining the very basic rules here and doing it very well. This is BARE MINIMUM. Keep in mind the rooms will always change. Somebody could give you a beautiful velvet sofa that is 10X better than what you have, or your rug could get completely ruined. Still follow these rules with changes.
Then personally, I like to add something very unexpected, as long as it doesn't look like a mistake.

I divided my decorating into 4 seasons so I can add and remove items merging into the current season. I rotate: the artwork, knick knacks, placement of the furniture.

I personally think you need some kind of table in a living area. Maybe not a big coffee table, but a side table, ottoman, stool, something....

Would appreciate comments on lighting/electronic plug-in in cases where furniture is not near walls and outlets.

I recently learned that women like to have conversations while sitting face to face, while men prefer sitting next to each other while talking (don't wanna generalize that info, personal preferences are always individual). Also, people tend to gravitate towards the sitting spots near the walls rather than the middle of the room. So I added a pouf to my living room that is easy to move. Now anyone has the chance to have a converation at any angle to each other and anywhere between the wall and the center of the room. We can really tell the difference in conversations! People are instantly more comfortable if they get to choose where to sit, it's amazing!

Wow, some subjects in this video really made me rethink my space. Thanks for your advice, it's very helpful. Now I have to go throw out my coffee table.

I appreciate the advice on furniture with legs, but I do have to say that the dogs are extremely talented at stranding their toys under the furniture and also filling the space underneath with hairballs, so I'm thinking that my next couch is going all the way to the ground, even if it makes it look massive.
