My mom literally thought that digital art was literally just me editing pictures to look like drawings, like, I feel both offended over her assumption that I'd seriously do that and call it drawing and weirdly touched by my drawing apparently being so good that she thought it was an edited picture—

I've always been insecure that I'm not making digital art fast enough, but I'm happy I'm not alone at least lol

DAMN, the "let's take a break" was the most relatable thing I've ever seen 😅

This is what those people who say "digital art isn't real art" think. Digital art is just like paper but you can fix mistakes easy and have more tools

Like when I first started, I was soooo thought that I could "draw faster than traditional art". Turned out it was NOT. And apparently I'm yet used to sketch digitally so I need to do it on paper, take a pic of the piece and get it loaded on my lap. Tbh it's even more tiring than doing traditional art sometimes

as a digital artist i can confirm this is our thought process
oh, and by the way the longer the breaks we take the more we forget to even know how to hold an apple pencil

Goodness gracious, the “let’s take a break” part is definitely my mood 💯 of the time LOL. Your somewhat old classic film-y kind of editing tied with this context of “digital art: expectation vs reality” is really remarkable! It makes for a pleasant concoction, I must say. Because usually the ones I see tends to be meme-y immediately, nothing wrong with that! I’m just saying, this is quite refreshing compared to the ones I watched before. Love! 💛

Not gonna lie, back in the day I thought deadass it was like the expectation, how blind I was but it's really nice to know now... Artists deserve much more recognition.

Back when I was into MTG, I watched a Timelapse of an artist making the illustration for a card. They used a 3D model for composition and to get the right lighting, and painted over it adding detail and life. It looked pretty dang good.

The comments on the video were… less then enthusiastic. Accusations of cheating were thrown around liberally. It seems that non artists have a pretty high bar for what they consider to be “real” art.

wait so you’re telling me that this is not how it’s done?!

I noticed three out of the five art pieces you showed in this video were based on Studio Ghibli movies. The second from Expectation was Arrietty from Secret World. The third appears to be Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service. And then the one at the end is No-Face from Spirited Away! Those are some great pieces of art, regardless of how they are made.

Digital artist here (specifically a finger artist). I can saw the obvious that Digital art is not as easy as "just use the finish drawing brush!"

I had art block for 24 days (nearly 4 weeks) and a lot of drawing are scrapped just like with traditional art.

Yes, in a lot of aspects, Digital art is easier than traditional, like with the undo button and the layers, but traditional art is also easier in some aspects too, like with more access to textures, and paint.

Each medium has it perks and disadvantages <3

Even though I'm not an artist (let alone a digital artist 👀💀)
I KNOW how hard it is
The inspiration, the motivation, the sketches, the line art, the coloring, the shading and lighting (details), the TIME!!!
*GOD SAVE THESE ARTISTS!!!*

And gosh how hard and a LONG TIME it is to make these things we call ✨Art✨
And let's not talk about those animators out there

my grandpa is completely dismayed whenever he hears that i do digital art because "nobody will hire you if you don't have it on physical record"
and listen i love the guy but i would literally never get hired considering all of my clients have been from the internet asking for digital artwork

Yah, us viewers always expect such good art from these types of guys but we never know how hard it truly is to make something that people will enjoy and it can be so heartbreaking for so much work to go into something you drew just for people like us to diss it.

Imma be honest, the expectation is honestly like every art tutorial I’ve ever seen.

I feel like the "let's take a break" part of it is relatable for all kinds of creative arts. As a video editor and youtuber myself, I record a 40-minute giga project, do 2 minutes of it, get bored, and then never touch it again.
