The choosing of the tokens is the first argument in Monopoly. It's all downhill from there.

When playing risk as a teen, I always had a rule. Take out one player early. The result was either me owning a lot of land before everyone and gaining troops faster than them, or me not having to get increasing angry over a few hours because I kamakazied myself and don't have to play lol

Me & my friends once played Risk 2050 for 10 hours straight. We literally saw an alliance break down just because one of us pulled a nuke fallout card and it hit a region where the max soldiers were placed. We saw a screaming match amongst them. 🤣🤣

Ah risk. My friends and I have had quite a few tense moments some involving alcohol. Though the one that pissed me off the most is when there were four of us and one of my friends took out another friend and the three remaining were going to have an all-out war with our armies and our salty friend thought it would be funny to launch a water bottle at the board. It scattered everything on the board and as we couldn't remember where all the pieces went, we decided to put it all away. The three of us were not happy after that. We joke about it now and refer to it as the meteor incident.

There was an episode of "Malcom In The Middle" in which the family was playing a thinly disguised version of Risk ( Probably couldn't use the name.).

As the episode went on, the more arguments began breaking out until finally they all agreed to end the game AND burn the evil game in the backyard.

Ah, yes.. I knew deep down that Trivial Pursuit would be here.
These games are _exactly_ why I love Solitaire.
That way if there is any yelling & fighting, it's just me kicking my own ass.

Having played so many tabletop games all these years made me realize that these games are 100% always a social game, be it Monopoly, Risk, Catan, Werewolf, UNO etc, it is always the players in an alliance that win. The people that go into it not intending to cooperate with anyone always get taken out quickly first by invisible alliances that know what they are doing, and the real game only starts when the people who worked together to take out all the loners target each other. Some people that I've seen never win these board games no matter how much they try, even though they fully understand the game rules and general strategies to win, as they didn't play socially.

You needed an honorable mentions. Backgammon, Life, Chess, Dungeons and Dragons and Clue have all started many battles over the years. Not to mention the card game UNO.

Monopoly has shown my college friends my accounting skills. So much so, that my ex-girlfriend said that it'd be unfair to play against an accountant.

Diplomacy should be number 1. Its not super popular but I have played it enough to know that you destroy all alliances and trust among your friends to win. It is the point to betray your word and screw over your One of my favorite games.

Never thought "Sorry" would be a board game that could destroy friendships, considering the name is "Sorry."

"Card game version of among us" ibwas thinking of The Thing. Was surprised that even the board game The Thing wasn't on it. Glad Risk made the list, such a great board game.

Hardly heard of some of these games, though the rankings and explanations were on point. That said, you'd think there would be honorable mentions such as the Game of Life. THAT game is brutal...

I remember once playing a game of Monopoly at my best friend's house (RIP), and it was getting so frustrating and tense that I just burst out laughing and he did as well and we never finished the game because it was so damn funny how seriously we were both taking that insidious game. Another game I hated was Stratego.

Mensch Ärgere Dich Nicht ("Ludo" named in UK and "Aggravation" in US) deserves a spot on this list. It is really complicated to describe this game and it's rules. Because they variate from how you played this game the first time as a child.
