Penny moved in across the hall regardless of Leonard, and Sheldon already lived there, so it is implied in this scene, that Sheldon would have still met Penny, and that clearly Penny is the most precious constant in his life because he imagined his life without Leonard but still with her!

Living with Sheldon would’ve been a nightmare for Tam. He still should’ve said to Sheldon a long time ago “Please, you’re so obsessed with being superior to everyone that nobody but me even wants to talk to you. How do you figure that I’m the only friend you have Sheldon?”

The most important thing in this scene is that Sheldon imagines a life without Leonard, but still with Penny, and says such a life would still be great. It is significant because, through Leonard, Sheldon met Raj and Howard, and then through Howard and Raj, Sheldon met Amy, so to sum up, thanks to Sheldon's friendship with Leonard, Sheldon met Amy, and yet the absence of Leonard (and thus as the consequence, the absence of Amy) is not a disaster for him, but the absence of Penny would be! This scene is brilliantly written and very clearly shows that the most important person in Sheldon's life is neither Leonard nor Amy but Penny! In the version of Sheldon's life with Tam, Sheldon still meets Penny & Penny is the ONLY friend from the real group still in this version!! Penny is the 'one and only' in Sheldon's life, and her presence makes his life great, as he himself says here.

This scene tells you all you need to know about Big Bang - that the most important person for Sheldon was always Penny, and that their relationship was the heart and soul of the show!

I think if Tam is Sheldon 's roomate, the elevator would have been working because it was Leonard's wrong equation that broke (destroyed) it.

Notice how Tam is basically recreating moments Sheldon had with Leonard. This is how Sheldon *_WANT_* things to be like if Leonard had never been in his life. His own perception of how things would have gone. However, the truth would have been VERY different because Tam and Leonard two two very different people

Sheldon is such an asshole! Don't you see? Without Leonard, he never would've met Howard and Raj. And without those two, he never would've met Amy. Who would become the love of his life. So I'm glad that things worked out the way they did. I don't think I would've even liked Tam. It's bad enough that they already had one smart idiot in the group, they didn't need another.

True to form, Sheldon cannot see the connective tissue that makes his life so great. Without Leonard, there is probably a lot less Penny; maybe none. And without Raj and Howard, there is no Amy.
