Alan, you gotta be more careful having your blinds open in the towers of Coruscant. There could be death worms crawling behind you at this very moment.

You are the last bastion of decent Star Wars channels on YouTube. You're the only one I still regularly watch when you upload. Your analysis on this franchise is unmatched.

That is the best green screen window effect I’ve ever seen.

High republic fans when the sober republic comes in

I thought there’s a lot of Jedi in the High Republic but sometimes I think during the prequel era the Jedi Order felt a lot smaller since most of them are killed left and right.

Alan is one of the few YouTubers that can say thought exercise and I will continue watching.

12:20 Adding to that: Since the Jedi practice abstinence they basically don't get children. But it is known that the children of someone who is force sensitive are often strong with the force as well. So by just "collecting" those strong with the force and training them, without actually doing anything to increase the supply of new ones, they only get the ones that randomly appear. So the number "10.000" is probably the highest they can get with that strategy, and there simply aren't any more.

Small note: I don’t think Vernestra Rwoh is a Grandmaster, I think she’s a senior and respected Jedi Master, maybe even on the Council, but I don’t think there’s any evidence she’s one of the Order’s leaders.
Having said that it’s not impossible either, during the High Republic Era Yoda did share the rank of Grandmaster with two other Jedi Masters.

The thing about the low number of Force sensitives can partly also be attributed to the Jedi's practice of not having children or families (with a small number of exceptions). Especially when we already know that Force sensitivity is congenital (see the Skywalkers, Kanan Jarrus's son Jacen Syndulla, Rey, the Dathomirians in general, etc).

The small number we see is simply the general amount of randomly occurring examples. The Jedi being the only major force using society left in the galaxy means that their practice of non-procreation has removed the natural passing along of Force capabilities on a wider scale that would be expected of any other genetic capabilities.

The Jedi membership was limited by their m-count requirement, I think it's 7000, but I'm not sure if that's the current canon number. During wartime in the Old Republic they didn't have that requirement which resulted in millions of low tier Jedi and Sith.

Thanks for making this video. It would also be interesting to count given the proportion of force sensitives in a population and the total galactic population, how many force sensitives there are in average in the Galaxy

9:14 Well, that gives a little nice touch to Ki-Adi-Mundi. Being one of Rwohs old cronies cleared his path to becoming a Master and joining the Jedi Council 100 years later.

This is interesting, as well, because Huyang seems to indicate in Ahsoka that the training of only high m-count folks, and by implication only young children, has been happening for only “a millennium.” I suspect that at least during the Sith Wars, if not for all of history, the Jedi Order (as well as the Sith, presumably) would train basically anyone of any age group. It will be interesting to see how and why the Jedi chose to only train high m-count children. My guess is that it has something to do with the Sith discovering (rediscovering?) midichlorians and going after highly powerful-in-potential children; that the Jedi responded by trying to find, shelter, and train these kids first.

I'm still amazed by the way you've done your backdrop!
Other than that - another very informative video, Mr Senator.

I’m honestly not even sure how to process Star Wars content that’s well researched and well reasoned and not about flame wars at this point…

Good use of the rebuilt Hohenzollern Bridge and the cathedral in Cologne as an illustration. Makes for a strong contrast to that same area in 1945.

It was my understanding that that 10, 000 jedi quote was about knights and didn’t include Younglings/ Padawan, but could definitely include the masters!
