for the archway i recommend changing the block to arch and then using the vertex tool to square off the edges, also please make the arch to a func_detail and making the non visible faces nodraw for performance, and for the buttons id recommend using prop_static for them or if you have a model that has an animation/changing skins a prop_dynamic and using a nodraw texture on a func_button so then the buttons look nicer

Thank you fellow British boy I very much appreciate your door craftsmanship

In the doors with buttons, the 'lip' value is a great option, since you can make doors completely disappear inside a wall or make it don't go totally inside, play with the values (negatives numbers works), also, with buttons you can use only one, and use the 'toggle' output, but the tutorial is awesome

can never forget the door frames for larger doors, they always make blast doors and the like look way better than they already did

also the lip value is great if you dont want doors vanishing into the ceiling/wall!

When I make doors of any kind, I always make sure to add a threshold. With prop_door_rotating's I usually just make two 1x2 wood brushes going up it's side, and one going across the top. This is a great tutorial for the mechanica however, keep it up!

The second type of door in this video is called gate. Gates don't require any door because it is an open entrance. I love it because gates are actually the work of art in Architectures.

Nice, although... I have some complaints

You forgot to mention the doorframe part, which is, most of the times, around 4x4 units wide.

Instead of doing 2 buttons you could just do one button with the "Toggle" output.

The way you made the arch was... NOT fine. What I do is make a 180 Degree half-circle with the arch tool, then use the 1 unit grid and create blocks, after that manipulate the brush with the vertex tool so its not blocky and looks like an arch. The end result is better for the compiler, looks better, and just looks better for the eyes on the 2D side view, since the whole arch pretty much always stays on the grid, making it easier to rotate and copy.

Also miscelanious stuff but:
In options there is a setting to snap rotation to 15 degrees, I recommend enabling this, since it helps a ton with rotating brushes, oh and also if you want to quickly use the 1 unit rotation just hold ALT.

that is an absurd and quite frankly incredibly upsetting way to make arches, i respect it

For the first part with the prop door, you should have included the door frame construction since alot of mappers forget to add the brushwork frame

For the third part, use a cylinder on top of a block and clip the form of the cylinder into the block

you can also just do the "toggle" flag on doors to make them closeable :)
