Sign up for my GL365 Academy to finally understand the guitar, develop a great ear for music, pro level technique and much more! Personalized support from me!

In this Whipping Post guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great Allman Brothers Band song, while also showing you how to improvise your own solos over it just like Duane Allman and Dickey Betts do.

The tuning is E standard tuning, E A D G B E.

"Whipping Post" has a ton of great guitar parts to learn. From the killer riffs to the guitar harmony sections, you will find it all here in this video lesson.

However, since "Whipping Post" was used as a great improvisation vehicle, that allowed the band to create amazing 30 MINUTE long live versions with dazzling improvisation throughout, I thought it would be best to tackle those solo sections by demonstrating WHAT Duane and Dickey are doing so that you can create your own improvisation as well.

I hope you guys enjoy learning this classic rock masterpiece while also hopefully having some of the mystery around those incredible improvisations revealed as well. :) Carl...

I love this academy style of teaching through a song lesson of an absolute classic! I was just saying how I wanted to start dusting off my blues chops and what better way than to re-watch the blues boot camp! This is just a taste of what’s in the academy. Give it a try! There’s really no better way to learn the art of the axe 🤷‍♂️🎸

Hey Carl, about 2 years ago i started learning guitar at school with a teacher but felt unmotivated and gave up. But in the past 6 months i have gotten inspiration by listening to my favourite songs. Your tutorials have helped me learn those songs so thank you. Never quitting guitar ever again

OMG! You're playing it in A major, the correct key! So refreshing. Everyone plays in in A minor, although that's totally incorrect. Many, many thanks, and rock on.

Oh Lord I feel like I'm dying! when I was a teen, a blues guitarist taught me the 'moveable' A minor pentatonic scale staring low E string at fret 3 up to high E string 12th fret as one continuous scale. After learning to play scales 'in position', I felt free as a bird to move over the neck. This is the best way to approach the pentatonic scale! Thanks Carl, and yeah - the Blues Rock Bootcamp was fantastic!

For a guy who says he doesn't like Gibson's that guitar is beautiful. I Love it!

Carl, i followed along with my guitar then i couldn't keep up. But i'll be taking it up step by step. I appreciate all rock but blues rock is my #1. I think i found the genre i feel most comfortable with & just speaks to me. This whole lesson appealed to me greatly. It is disappointing that i am unable to join the academy for more lessons & helpful content at this time. But once i can i will definitely do so. Lastly, i have to warn you that if i ever see you in person, i will bother you for a handshake in gratitude. Haha. Have a great one! Cheers to you Carl. 🤘🏻

Hey Carl hope you’re enjoying this wonderful holiday weekend. How about a lesson for “can’t find my way home” by Blind Faith.

This song is so simple and difficult at the same time in a fantastic way. The guitar tone is equal to the technique.
