I knew everything but the part about the gold.
I loved her art since I was a child.
I wondered why, watching the movie w/ Salma Hayek, included her talking to a man with gold and the end of The bus scene with her laid out covered in gold.
Thank you for your art and your lesson.

Frida started painting whilst in hospital
To kill the time and alleviate the pain, her parents encouraged her to paint and made her a special easel so that she could paint lying down in bed. She painted her body cast, then turned the paintbrush on herself, using a mirror hung above her bed.

The image of her covered in gold is so tragically poetic

As Frida herself said “At the end of the day we can endure much more than we think we can”. I have this tattooed on my arm.

She's mentioned in the Disney movie, Coco in the land of the dead. What a strong woman she was. May she rest in peace

Up until you mentioned the iron bar I wondered what sick beauty of a red-gold survivor would look like. I imagined something like one of those old paintings that depict tragedy

What a beautiful woman. Not only physically but artistically and mentally.

Te amamos mamá Frida. Gracias por su amor y su tiempo con nosotros en la tierra.

One reason frida ended up loving painting is because while she was in the hospital she was in constant pain and when she painted it was if she were in a different world forgetting the pain she was in

OMG that woman went through the most, thank God she had parents that truly loved her.

This is a gorgeous portrait. I love Frida and I have a portrait of her in my room. Many of her paintings are so anatomically accurate because of her interest in medicine and the sciences. She was ahead of her time...

I looked into her having to have emergency abortions out of curiosity. She had one after the accident when it was believed that her health condition would make the pregnancy too dangerous to carry.
Over the years she also had several abortions because the pregnancy was endangering her life or the fetus had severe malformations.
Today doctors believe that the accident caused her to have Asherman syndrome, which is rare but severe scarring if the uterine tissue.

we’ve been studying her in my art class and she is such a wonderful artist… in spite of everything she suffered, she managed to contribute a huge deal to the art world ❤️

I have no words right now. I worked in a hospital for almost 2 decades. I have a bachelors and masters degree… in public health, no less. I was made to do numerous projects on Frida Kahlo for many many reasons. This is the first time I’ve ever heard the story. Thank you. Today was the day I needed to hear it most.

Sadly, she never had a happy marriage either, her husband told her to move to the United States and later she proceeded to go through depression. I love frida Khalo

Espero que estás en el cielo haciendo pinturas de Dios ❤

My mom is a huge fan of her. My mom being a Hispanic woman she never saw history of people like her. So she listened to stories. We learned about Frida in school and there was girls making fun of her and saying racial slurs. It makes me mad even to this day. Because if anyone were to say anything offensive about their history we’d get detention and such. Frida brought out the good in everyone.
