I want to add in for people interested in this career, it is VERY competitive. I have over a year of experience through working with small businesses/freelancing and a college degree, and it is tough for me to find a well paying "entry level" role. If you really want a career in this field, you are going to have to prove to yourself and others that you can do what is required. The journey is slow and long, and just taking a couple courses online isn't going to be nearly enough. My advice to incoming digital marketers, you will most likely be working for free until you have some skills/projects you can put down on paper. Volunteer for local businesses/programs and if you really want to stand out, use what skills you do have and freelance your services and take as many projects as you can. Last thing, a learner's mindset is very important, you're going to learn something new every day and it's definitely a top trait employers look for. Continue to read, listen to podcasts, google things, watch videos, and get out there and practice, practice, practice. Good luck!

As an HR professional who has a degree in marketing I won’t say school is necessary but it helps. When hiring managers or anyone looking to hire you looks at your resume they don’t only look at skills, but also gauging your commitment level. School is an indicator to managers that you are serious about work and willing to learn. Digital marketing is ever changing and it’s true some college programs can’t keep up, but what school does help with is foundational skills that can be built upon. I can tell you right now a lot of marketing jobs I see (in the corporate world) require some form of formal education. But this video has great insight into a lot of the realities of the digital marketing space

I just got made redundant in my digital marketing role, because of AI. I was forced to start using chat gbt to speed up the process of content creation... and now I've been pushed out because my boss says he can no longer justify it as a full time position.

If you really want to try this career, be aware of just how much of an impact technology has. It's not as glamorous as you might think, in a world where your SEO keyword research and use of AI valued more than your content creation ability.

Still interested? I would think about working for an agency, rather than with a brand/company directly. I was the latter, and they now outsource to an agency.

I agree with you. The certificates or certifications are just for added knowledge. People who excel in anything digital (digital marketing, social media advertising, social media mgt) are people who take social media as a hobby. They are always creative with content, and they have the highest engagements on their pages.

To become successful in this field we need to prove ourself, when we start learning we have to practically prove it as well, like a blogging or vegging and the tactics..once you get tested all your skills you will learn better and be sure to be up to dated in all the technics...I have done it and made a self confidence.. after that you will enjoy this career..its challenging and competitive.. best artistic career guys..kudos..good luck

Great video, I have an International Trade Degree, and now I'm finishing a Private Online Business School Master's Degree in Digital Marketing (the luck is that I've got a scholarship that paid for the entire Master, I live in the EU, so the cost of the education is a lot lower than in the US). And meanwhile, I'm finishing a paid internship in a business as well, and probably they will offer me a contract.
