The best Led light I have tried. And I have tried a lot. Not just strong, but also great colour on your fish.

looks like Great improvement but with one switch can't simulate that day and moonlight affect with timers controlling blues and whites separately. Many units sold now have built in timers. Any plans for that in the future?

Hello Tom. It's Michael here again. I intent to buy a double ramp up/dim down 24hrs timer and a satellite light to go with it. The problem is, I am new in this kind of technology and I have been an avid aquarium hobbyist since 1976, including owning an aquarium shop  in the mid 80's, so I regard myself a bit old fashioned. Nowadays I have a few tanks just to stay with the fish side of life and I love it. But this LED bar of lights used to light the aquarium are a bit of a confusion as well as a concern, especially with the incredible brightness of these super bright LEDs and whether they could cause fish blindness from the intensive downward light. At the moment I use a new tank from Aqua One (soon this brand will be known worldwide. If not Google it.) The tank is already fitted with a LED bar of lights that are plugged into a timer. There have been a number of observation and disadvantages of the fish behaviour with these LED lights. When turned on in the morning, the sudden brightness DOES startle the fish that they suddenly rush into shaded areas. Others are so shocked that swim straight into objects and even the glass. So, this is not that good, and not good at all. Fluorescent tubes on the other hand didn't seem to affect the fish that bad in the morning because due to their warm up state they didn't start with a brightness of these LEDs, so fishes weren't that startled and managed to cope with the quick lighting. Now, in the evening, it's a different story. I used to set the timer to go off at about 8pm so that we can enjoy the fishes at dinner time. But, it didn't go well without first experimenting with these LEDs and the effect that they cause to the fishes eyes. The sudden changes from very bright to very dark caused the fish to startle for some time before they settled down and adjusted themselves to the change. I used an IR light and a digital camera to film and view the results. IR light cannot be seen by fishes, so it was the only option to view and study fish behaviour after the sudden switch-off of the lights. So, I do believe that this fast switch on in the morning and switch off in the evening is harmful to the fishes and leads to stressing them. I mean, let's put you into a very bright room with one white painted door for a day and then turn the lights off, show me if you can find you're way towards the door. Your first words would be, "I can't see a thing!" And if you stayed in that dark room for some time until your eyes adjust to the darkness and you might be able to see the white door, then you understand the rest. And that is exactly what happens to the fishes. So, stressed fishes leads to other health complication leading to weaker immune system and then they become subjected to diseases, virus attack and other nasties. Every day I had fishes, I have done experiments and learned a lot. For example, rough substrate (large gravel to 5-7 mm in size are not good for bottom dwellers such as Corydoras as they do damage their whiskers when trying to dig deep into those stones. The suggested size grains for these bottom dwellers are max 2 mm because in their quest to push they snout into the gravel to get to the food doesn't scrape the whiskers away as sand simple shifts over, but not large stones. It's like a human shifting boulders to get to the worms. Other things I've learned through observation are written in my diaries but I am here to discuss the effect these super bright LEDs may cause to the fish, including eye cataract which we describe it as puffed eyes of cloudy eyes in some fishes exposed to strong light, e.g. Cardinal Tetras. Now, since the new craze of using these super bright LED lights for aquarium with little or no scientific research on what they might do to fishes eyes, never mind the plants, as plants have no eyes, everyone seem to accept the idea that exceedingly super bright LED light, the kind of light that you wouldn't stand looking at it for hours on end or you will certainly go blind, just like staring at the sun for ten minutes, there are a number of questions that need to be answered of the aftermath effects on fishes. And now, since the new craze of using the brightest light there is for aquarium lighting,  the subject extents to further questions on why are fishes now being exposed to further harassment with super bright multi-colored LED lights? What do manufacturers and people alike think this is, a disco show? Being further subjected to strange light and color changes does make the fish confused and startled to further stressing them more and more, with added bullshit like storm, lightning effect, cloud changes, etc. Why not add floods and earthquake effect as well? To me, it does sound quite ridiculous to use fish tank lights as mood lights, as if the fish would understand that, as if it's Saturday Night Fever. Why not add a water proof speaker and play music underwater for the fish? Why not even add a John Travolta figurine in the water that sways next to a jet of water from the filters? See how crazy we've become? From a friendly hobby of keeping fishes to a totally out of mind hobby that is now just as ridiculous as it can get. Lastly, but not the last, is the use of internal filter pumps and agitator pump in the aquarium water. These are not good if they're not quiet, meaning, no rumble, vibration or micro waves are to be felt. It's like putting you in front of an air oscillator that makes a continuous droning sound that will drive you crazy. Well, in fishes term, that rumbling and droning micro vibration felt in the water is too much for the fish and these internal filters, agitator pumps and even large bubbles coming out from ornaments from air pumps need to be removed or silenced at night by switching them off. But that is impossible, that means everything has to have a timer. Well, the best way of keeping healthy fishes with less the vibration and other rumbling noises in the water, is to have an external filter canister that draws water out, filters it and return it with a gentle and soothing natural effect of running water that relaxes the fishes. These canisters, e.g. Fluval, are the perfect solutions. Fluval, of which I have 7 of them from 204 to 404 (these may be old stock now). They last a long time and their filtering medium and sponge never had a replacement. That's why I love Fluval external filters. The rest of my other 4 tanks have Ehein 600 canisters, another top brand and easy to use. Anyone who has internal filters or water agitator pumps in their aquariums should insert their hand in the water and touch the pump body. Any rumbling vibration felt from the pump body and that should be removed and get a Fluval external filter. If not, then get an Eheim. The objective to this is to have minimum noise in the water. In the fishes natural environment, the only sound there is, is the gentle water flow, or dropped leaves and rain drops, an occasional insect falling in the water or a distant noise of water running over rocks in a brook, or even a small falls. There is no rumbling sound, no water waves, not earthquakes and no disco lights with multi-colored or flashing lights. No clouds lighting effects or shades of trees either. All fish need for a healthy environment is a ramp up and dim down 24 hour times, less the John Travolta - Saturday Night Fever bullshit. If you want moody lighting, buy something that does that flash this and flash that and leave the fishes alone.

Hey, have a question, is this led suitable for high requirement plants such as cuba or any other carpeting plants?

I have one of these on my son's aquarium. Just wondering if the mounting bracket ( for the aquarium frame) is removable as I'm wondering about hanging it with one of your suspension kits? Surely if the brackets weren't on it, it would be a little lighter? If they are removable, how is it done?

Hello, I have a odd question for you. For years I had full planted fish tanks with fresh and plant LED 2 grow lights on top. Would I be able to use these grow lights for my long term potted plants in my house now that I no longer have aquariums? They are very powerful and I'd like to repurpose them if possible because they are pretty much brand new. Thank you.

Are the legs removable? I have the light on a glass canopy and do not need the lights in the air the extra 1/2" unless it will damage the fixture.

is it normal for the ballast and wifi controller to get hot ?? both pieces are very hot to the touch, even when the fixture is off, the ballast and wifi module stay hot. ?? why would it stay so hot when the lamp is not even on. is it drawing electricity while fixture is off ? doesnt make sense

Also, the website says this is 2, 350 LM is this the total lumen of the leds? if so, how many lumens per litre would be in a 15 gallon tank?
