I have really bad social anxiety so I hated the extra attention and always appreciated the teachers that asked what I was comfortable with, the quiet happy birthday from them was all I needed to feel seen and happy

I can't express to you how much my inner child appreciates you asking if they want a big deal or no deal. I hated being made a big deal of, so much trauma there, but I did really need the acknowledgement. Thank you for being the educator you are, you are going to live with many of those kids for the rest of their lives as a bright spot during a hard confusing time in life.

I have a summer birthday, when teachers went the extra mile to wish me a happy birthday over the summer on the last day of school, that really made me feel special. They remembered that I do in fact have a birthday, I just don't get to see them for it.

My biology teacher keeps track of when everybody’s birthday is, and when its somebody’s birthday, in a very depressed sounding tone, he sings a funny version of the happy birthday song with a few different lyrics. 😂

my mom has a list of all her students’ birthdays and a little gift she gives each of them. i think it’s one of those sticker things where you decorate a cupcake.
