Cry of Fear is a masterclass in survival horror. In regards to the scariest games I've played, it's right near the top of that list.

Hold on...Cry of Fear, one of the best horror games around is free of charge? Crazy.

Cr of Fear comes from a small group of passionate developers from Sweden that outclasses all but the very best the genre has to offer.

Cry of Fear takes heavy influence from horror titans like Silent Hill but gives its own unique twist. Cry of Fear does have a few drawbacks, like an overreliance on jumpscares, but the pros outweigh the cons by a wide margin. This was my first time playing Cry of Fear, and throughout I kept thinking to myself "Why didn't I play Cry of Fear sooner"?

So happy to see you looking at this masterpiece. Blew me away over 10 years ago, still can't believe it's free and its devs haven't been supported more. Spectacular video as always!

I love that when you mention auditory characteristics and such you ALWAYS give an example of what they sound like. A lot of reviewers just say "oh yeah, you can hear this when the enemy is near" and proceed to not demonstrate anything, so you have to look it up yourself. I'm glad you do, it's really immersive and keeps me attached to the screen. Good job

I think what makes this thing scary is the realism that plays into it. Depression is something a lot of people knowingly and unknowingly struggle with so Simon quickly becomes a relatable character something many games are not able to achieve.

this was such a huge let's play title, nostalgic as hell

I haven't hear of this game in forever, back when Radbrad and early markiplier did a playthrough. This was some scary shit for the time.

I actually went to college studying game design at Canterbury with one of the devs, James Marchant here in the UK. He was actually in the process of working on this at the time. He moved to Sweden and went on to work for EA in the end and I'm not sure what he's up to now days as sadly I lost contact with him. Always blows me away what they achieved and how big it got within the indie horror scene

This game is still scary as shit. And it’s not due to the jump scares. It’s the atmosphere, the mental state of Simon, and the way that affects all of the things he sees. Truly nightmarish stuff.

5mins later edit:
Thanks for covering this dude. Apart from some old YouTubers covering it, this game really never got off the ground and got support like it should have. This is a great video homie, consider me subbed. ❤️

My favorite horror game of all time. Great action, great scares, great score. The level design in particular is a standout-- the way the open world gradually unfolds and loops back on itself in emerging layers is like peeling an onion in reverse. Love it!

I first saw this game on the Shitstorm of Scariness and I loved it instantly. That was prolly 2010? I’m fucking thrilled to see people talking about it now! I’ve seen a couple other channels mention it and I’m so glad. This game is so interesting and terrifying and just a good time. Great vid!

One of the few Horror games that genuinely fucked me up! I couldn't believe it was free when I played through it, and I still can't believe how scary the game exactly was despite the jump scares.

Good point about most horror titles having a "small roster of enemies." I never thought about it much, but that's really bugged me, too.
Many games feel like they have 3-5 unique creatures as the bulk of your encounters, and you get desensitized quickly.

DSP still catching strays for that crouch jumping moment 😂😂😂

I’d like to see you cover The Suffering series. Those games used to freak me out when I was growing up because the monster sound design was unsettling.

I still think hearing Brandon shortly after escaping the first nightmare is the most unforgettable experience in the game for me.

Thank you for reviewing this absolutely spectacular game! it's been a huge part of my life growing up. Glad a remake is underway according to Team Psykskallar, which I'd love to play.

I love it so much that you are an extreme DSP-lore nerd, granted he's not as much of a lolcow nowadays, but I've rewatched every TIHYDP multiple times now. Good to see a fellow aficionado in the wild!

7:03 I immediately thought of Daymare 1998, one of the only survival horror games I can think of with that reloading mechanic.
