I remember the time I read the book "Let there be a range" and it fucking blew my mind. I was a winning player in micro stakes and certain sit and goes, but i could not believe that I never actually thought correct about any pokerhand ever. Besides range thinking poker taught me a lot about life. Variance and outcome independence behavior is universal useful

I've always liked Daniel Negreanu for his personality and excellent poker skills, especially his reads on other players. Great to hear him explain poker concepts in such clear detail.

This man might not go down as the 'best to ever play the game" even if he is my favorite...but the amount of times he's called the exact hand his opponent had is truly next level. I've done it a few times casually playing with friends...I can't imagine calling as many as he has called in world class tournies and stuff.

Great explaining, Daniel Negreanu and Lex Fridman both geniuses that explain this 'let be a range' part of poker!

If gonna deep we could add that in calculation
when hand could go to another branch of action,
each hand have weight of be in different branches,

the effect is close to quantum entanglement
(the amount of 1 but almost never zero, it could be there, there or another place,
more in one place, - then less then in another)

elements of not only the practical use of the Baesian properties of reality but also the properties of
quantum entanglement

poker is an outsdanding game!

Really cool. My dad was big into poker but never explained the theory behind it. It’s interesting to hear all this stuff that some players just do instinctively

I wonder how he balances the range of hands against someone who is looking at it as a single hand (old school). This gets interesting in a table with multiple people as well. You now need to maintain a mental template of your bluff vs true hand range for each of those players and their proclivities.

If people generally understood game theory better, I think we could avoid creating so many unwanted consequences in legislation. There are so many examples of counterproductive incentives that would have been foreseeable just by asking the question 'how can one game this system?'

A good question would’ve been *how long would it take to get those type of reads on somebody to make those calls?*

The viral video of Daniel calling hands, down to the suit, is awesome

The thing I never got about stuff like this is if like he said the first player bets 3k and you can immediately eliminate most possible hands

Can’t a player just use the idea that you’re going to eliminate hands to his advantage

Game theory player’s playing optimal strategies mathematically even themselves out. There biggest obstacle is erratic unpredictable players

To those asking "what if you just ignore ranges", you can compare this to chess players taking "anti opening theory" lines and playing very unconventionally. It may be a "weird and unexpected" line that you have studied heavily and your opponent doesn't know, but you can't do it without consequences, you've weakened your position. If you play junk hands in poker you diminish your EV, some hands inherently win more than others. This "unexpected" factor in poker is far, far less.

Ranges work, strategy works, guessing works, math works, EXCEPT when playing against Daniel Negreanu, he sees through the back of cards.

How does Lex understand binary, but not this 😂

Seems like the best defence against Daniel, is to have no idea what you are doing.

Ranger poler ranges always reminded me of the wave theory… wonder if the math is similar.

However over time erratic play eventually succumbs to optimal game theory play
