I sauté on a separate non-stick pan to avoid the burn then transfer the food (including bits if I’m sautéing meat) to the InstantPot. I know this defeats the purpose of using one kitchen item but it works for me and the cleanup is super easy.

When I get the burn notice I run in tight circles with all appendages flailing while making loud and incoherent noises.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I literally bought three separate pressure cookers, one of which is an Instant Pot, and get the burn notice every single time - to the point that I quit using them all together. You explained at least 4 things I was doing wrong. I am going to try them once again. Thanks so much!!!

I have an 8 quart duo. When I look at the specifications it has a higher wattage which causes higher temperatures and more pressure psi than the other Instant Pots. I have seen the burn notice many times especially when I have a tomato based sauce. To combat this, when I use my 8 quart for a 6 quart recipe, I use the low pressure and I reduce the temperature to less. Tomatoes burn quickly so I make sure water goes in the pot first and tomatoes last. Don’t stir in tomatoes/tomato sauce. This has worked well for me. Hope it helps.

I am so GLAD that you’re addressing the “burn” notice on the ipot!! I was too embarrassed to ask because I knew I probably did a very dumb thing. I actually feel somewhat validated to find out that I wasn’t the only one! Thanks for giving me the reason (it was sauté for me—stuff stuck and I continued to put more stuff & change to pressure cook . . . DUH). THANK YOU! ♥️

Thank you! I kept getting the BURN notice, I added more water stirred the pot and still it happened, I finally dumped the food in another pot and behold at the bottom of the insta pot there was a layer of burned food, it took me a few to scrub it off, I put the food back in the insta pot and it cooked perfectly, no more BURN notice!

Excellent tips on this burn issue Kristin. I have had that happen once so far and hope no more. I think this is also great for beginners to watch so they don't get alarmed or frustrated. You are so smart, thanks for this, much appreciated. Hugs. Claudia

Great video, I'm here after the third Burn Notice with Chili with the pressure cooker, I suspected it was because there was enough liquid, but I like my chili thick, so I switched over to slow cooker.

Thank you! I was making dinner for family and the burn button came on. I forgot to scrape the bottom of the pan after searing. Thank you I removed the roast, scraped the pan and the rest is history. We enjoyed a beautiful meal!!! Thank you very much for the instructions.

* I live at 7, 000 Ft in Colorado. I've noticed using my instant pot that I need to add more liquid and add 5 to 10 minutes time to get stuff as done as I want it sometimes. I think at higher altitudes you need to adjust recipes and time it takes to cook them just a little bit for the best results. 🎀

I didn't realize you couldn't use a can of condensed cream of mushroom soup when pressure cooking. Wish I would have seen your video first! I am SO thankful for all the wonderful videos and information you provide. Keep up the GREAT work!

Thank you for your broadcast very helpful! I found if you forget to cancel the sautee button before you pressurize cooking you get the burn notice too! Thank you ❤️

If you have to stop the cooking because of a burn notice (thankfully I’ve never had that issue) do you have to start the timer over or do you put whatever time may have been left on the timer? Thanks for sharing these tips....have an awesome week. 🤗

I have a 6 quart duo. I have a heck of a time making beef stew. I use beef broth. I end up having to turn it off, take food out wash it and restart. I still get the burn notice.
