Return to work is simply a cheaper way to do a RIF, get employees to self-terminate without needing to pay severance or unemployment

The reality is we have way more workers than we need in the government. And 1% here, 2% there and it starts to add up

I own a marketing firm and have always worked from home, but my husband is a chief cyber security officer, and he works way more at home than he would in the office, possibly to the point of burnout. I don’t think we can assume that people who work from home are less productive.

Newsflash for Michael. Just because someone is not in a cubicle doesn’t mean they’re not working. I see Michael at a lot of different locations. Michael are you saying that you’re not working unless you’re in one particular studio? I’ve been working remotely for many years. I work sometimes 11 hours a day with high output. Even in the office, it’s just a waste of electricity, added traffic and pollution to the air and lower the quality of life. For workers, I think they are less productive when they are in the office. I know I was.

Additional things to consider. 1. You will have to go back to paying federal workers for transportation costs. 2. Federal workspace was reconfigured for hoteling. Meaning there isn't enough space for everyone to be there at one time.

It's called quiet firing. And if they only eliminate non-union jobs, that means fewer middle managers, and less oversight. So less work will get done.

Private sector jobs work on-prem as well. And if they're really going for efficiency, and there is a guy who can do the work of 5 guys, but he wants to work from home, then let him work from home and still make the other guys come in. Then they can quit, they can come in the office, or they can get as good as the first guy and work from home as well.

Every drop in the bucket adds to it. The Drop in the bucket is a lazy argument.

yep get in the office, I was a 40 year fed+ military time (been retired 2.5 years) and the telework policy now is crazy, too many people's first question is what the telework policy, i was a senior manager and there were a bunch of folks who needed to be fired

Cheeky. 'Adding a govt dept to trim govt'. Are you also one of those that say how efficient can DOGE be if it needs two leaders

I have no sorrow for those many govt employees that will be now able to find more fulfilling private sector work, their severance pay will be substantial

I've heard Ackman's suggestion to guarantee two years severance pay but paid only one month at a time and once they have a new job the remainder, if any, of the pay would be paid out

Incentive to find a job

This is exciting and you're lack of on the air enthusiasm shows you're skeptical.

Yes, they are paid to work, not sit at home. I’ve known government employees who work from home. It’s a joke! Hell, most of them don’t do anything at work, and I’ve seen that with my own eyes.
