Theory: after seeing the trailer I think Magnus was being sweet here to give Alec an opportunity tell him about the sword. You can tell from his eyes that he was hiding anger, also it looks like it's after he blasted his alcohol in that scene with Luke. At comic con, the parabatri mentioned that Magnus will lose it and Luke will try to talk to him
