Fun fact, James Woods did say that if anything involving Hades from Disney comes along, especially with the recent Kingdom Hearts games, he would gladly voice as Hades again since it's one of his best roles even he'd said so.

Hades is one of funniest Disney villain out there.

One main reason why Jack Nicholson was dropped as Hades is because he wanted a 50% cut of all merchandise sales coming from the character.

James Woods nailed the role so hard, that it’s what inspired Disney to not only bring him back for the Hercules television show, but get other celebrity voices in hopes of capturing the same magic they had with Hades, many of which were hit and miss.

As much as I love James Woods as Hades, John Litgow would've been a perfect choice, too. But hey, we got him as Lord Farquad. So I say it worked out in the end.

That’s right; Lord Farquaad himself would’ve been Hades!

It makes wonder one of the reasons Lithgow would do Farquaad for Shrek was because in response that he couldn’t do Hades in Hercules, and thus Dreamworks would pick him up. It’s just a theory though, but I will say that James Woods is a very fitting role for Hades

It makes me love the fact that James Woods loves the role so much that he comes back to voice Hades in pretty much every appearance onwards, from TV to video games. In fact, the one time where Woods DIDN’T voice Hades was in the Mickey's House of Villains halloween special, in which Rob Paulsen provided his singing voice in the number "It's Our House Now!"

Two things long before John Lithgow who played the voice of Lord Farquaad for DreamWorks Shrek, he was the first pick to voice Hades for Disney's Hercules but glad James Woods were awesome for the role.

Out of all the people they tried, they had to get the actor who turned out to be a terrible person in real life lol. But James Woods was really good as Hades

It's crazy but fitting that James Woods, like Hades, is a real-life villain but stripped away of any liability, and we only got left with repulsion.

Honestly Jack Nicholson would've been terrifying if he was going full Jack Torrence as Hades.

James woods got goofy and mimicked his agent and that’s why we got what we got

If I remember right, Nik Raneri, the supervising animator, mentioned that by the time they had John Lithgow, the dialogue had already been changed to pattern James Woods' audition. They kinda realized soon after that John trying to speak James Woods-tyoe dialogue just didn't fit him. And they were worried about James being pissed off about John losing a job as they're good friends.

James Woods was the perfect choice for Hades It was clear that he’s also a fan of the Marx brothers because Hades is like a Groucho Marx wiseguy

I’m glad they went with James Woods. Maybe you should do the video that Hans Conried was almost the voice of King Stefan in Sleeping Beauty before Taylor Holmes got the role.

According to Hades’ lead animator Nik Ranieri, he actually chose Lithgow without realizing that the screenwriters were writing dialogue for the character that would have fit James Woods. While he did like Lithgow’s take, the new dialogue just didn’t fit, and it wasn’t until a screening of the movie where Michael Eisner said, “Some villains are scary, some villains are funny, some villains are both. This guy’s neither.” And just like that, they recast the character as Woods.
