woodturning a log into a $500 swan necked vase. I take a Leyland Cypress log and create a long swan necked vase. I will be able to get $500 for this vase. I do some creative types of turning in order to get the whole piece hollowed.

I enjoyed that watch! Helpfully it was exactly 20 mins long, allowing me to time something I was doing while watching 👍👍👍😳🤗

My friend showed me. When going in from the bottom. Before you glue in your bottom plug. Sign your name on the inside before you glue it in. It makes it even more interesting. Your piece is just beautiful. Thank you for sharing. See you on the next one

Great work. Having the steady rest made all the difference for you. Hollowing the neck last may give you a bit more security by having more wood there. What you did looked good to me other than having to go back and clean up the rim. Regardless, you came out with a nice TALL vase. Should be an eye catcher for sure.

Holy smokes! That is a deep hollow. Also, that was a smart idea on the bottom end plug and the reverse hollowing.

Great job! I have seen others cut a little off the bottom before hollowing then use that for the "plug" that way the grain will line up and possibly put a few burn lines on the joint to disguise the joint. Just a thought. Hopefully you are not overdoing it after the heart attack . Stay well

That is a very cool vase. I like how you went from the bottom to hollow it out and then plug the hole. I have seen other guys on here just cut the vase into piece's and then glue them back together. I just don't like seeing the grains break doing that. Your vase has a nice clean look to it that I prefer.

Novel approach...very clever. Have you ever considered one of those pricey hollowing rigs? I'll probably never get past "considering"....lot of $
How're you doing after your heart attack. It doesn't seem to have slowed you down much. Hope all's well.

Do you think removing the Pith and then plugging back helps eliminate stress? Or was it just for ease?

Pretty wood. The neck of the vase is too long, just me, sorry.
