That scene hits differently as an adult vs when your a kid, because you realize how much that opportunity meant to Rodrick as an aspiring musician wanting to prove himself to his peers. This movie is surprisingly well written for an adaptation of a kids book.

I feel like Greg feels bad for rodrick more than himself

0:46 As an adult, this particular part of this scene hits differently. I could tell that losing his opportunity to perform in the talent show was the worst part of it for him as opposed to any other punishment he could have had. The fact that he was willing to take any other punishment in exchange for that opportunity should tell you how much it hurt him. He even went as far as to say that this could be his one chance to finally get his band out there. Imagine not being able to go after your dreams all because of a punishment that MAYBE went a little far.

Am I saying Rodrick and Greg shouldn't be punished at all? No. I get that as parents (Even as someone who doesn't have kids), they have to show them that their actions have consequences and what happens when they don't follow the rules but there is such thing as an extreme punishment or just taking things too far. Could this be an unpopular opinion? I'm sure it can be. Thoughts?

I get Rodrick was really pissed but he shouldn’t have blamed Greg. When his mom was grilling them about the door there’s no way “deny deny deny” was gonna cut it for any longer. Greg tried his best to reason with her and get them out of trouble, and it worked up until they found the pictures

I feel the parents shouldn't have gotten mad or punished them for the party. They had a really great time and it helped bonded them and stuff
