The story of Brightmoor is the story of #Detroit. It beams with the spirit of resurgence and a desire to reinvent itself with love and tenacity. Recent years have seen continuing efforts to clean up, reclaim, and redefine. The transformation is colorfully evident and reflects a unified community.

The #neighborhood dates back 100 years when a huge wave of Southerners left hostility for thousands of manufacturing jobs centered around mobility. It provided affordable housing just outside the City limits at the time, filled up quickly, and was officially woven into the City’s rapidly expanding tapestry just a few years later.

Decades passed, jobs disappeared and folks began leaving. But today, efforts from groups like the Brightmoor Alliance, Detroit Blight Authority, Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, and others – have combined and beautified whole blocks with art, urban gardens, and community-free libraries.

A greenway – in some ways a precursor to the 28-mile-long Joe Louis Greenway now under construction – connects Eliza Howell and Stoepel Park, both located in Birghtmoor.

Check it out! It sits in the NW, north of Cody and south of Old Redford. And a fun fact – the horror film Barbarian was recently filmed on-location in Brightmoor!
