playing games to fill a check list is kind of a bad idea to have fun with games tbh

For me, playing video games every day became like
only eating potatoes every day. Games started
becoming dull because of that habit. I had to change
things up to prevent monotony.

Most games nowadays bore me to death. I've seen too many, got desensitized. That's why i'm on the lookout for indie games, there's actual love and care put into them. It's usually someone trying something new without fear of losing money or company reputation, thus an original concept is born.

Most games these days are ironically less about fun and more about keeping a connective tissue of engagement. I often go through the motions because 100%ing a game feels like an accomplishment when it is done, even when the actual moment to moment experience is kinda dull and bores me to tears. Even better when it is technically a selfmade obligation because you decided to do some kind of project that more or less requires having experienced it. Like writing guides, doing a review, or making a wiki.(Yes, I for some reason decided to bite off something larger than my body with the Xeno series over there. All giant RPGs to begin with.)

I only feel bored with a game when I feel like I'm only playing it to finish playing it and move to the next one. That's me though, everyone is different and out of all the games I played this year (Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Dragon's Dogma 2) I never felt bored playing them and still rotate which ones I play even right now.

A game you have fun with you can just make your own fun with. A game you are bored with feels like a chore to play.

I noticed that after years of loving RPGs and playing them for hours on end, now I either get bored or angry and just turn them off within 20 minutes.

Most games ARE boring. Especially AAA games. And if you play those, it's obviously gonna feel boring. In order for playing a game to be fun, it needs to be a game that's actually fun to play, and I need to be in the mood to play it. If either of those things are not true, then it's just a waste of time. That's also why I don't keep a "backlog" even though I have hundreds of games on Steam I've never played. I only play games when I feel like playing them. If there are no games I feel like playing at the moment, then I just don't play games.

While there are certainly plenty of old greats I played in my childhood, such as Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, Super Metroid and Zelda: A Link To The Past, many of the games I currently consider to be some of the greatest of all time are actually relatively recent. Games such as Terraria, Bloodborne, Nioh 2, Hollow Knight and Cuphead.

Maybe they do. At least it's much harder to find a game which is actually fun. I feel like in the old days i could play one game and had so much fun when nowadays... i just get bored after 10 hours or so. I find it much more interesting to replay older games and from time to time play a new game which looks good.
Like I feel back in the days we regulary got amazing for their time games compared to baldur's gate 3 but nowadays same like with bg3 it's an anomally. Like in 2007 we received portal, mass effect, mario galaxy, bioshock, team fortress 2 - and that's still not all. but all of these games are cult classics. nowadays we get some massive games, seemingly fun but lacking this something which made gaming so great years ago. there are some interesting titles but i don't know. with how these massive companies are pushing on us unfinished products everything starts to feel soulless in gamedev. at least we still have independent studios and indies so i can be hyped for hades 2 or whatever larian is cooking next

I think a big thing for me is that I've gotten into a habit of looking at too much guides/tips content because of not wanting to lock myself out of gear/abilities/characters I wanted on my playthrough due to making a wrong choice. I've also become more interested in just trying out different builds/playstyles more then getting lost in a games world which leads to multiple restarts playing over the same earlier section of a game and focusing on fast leveling more then anything else.

I think playing games is like eating food, like yeah you *can* speed through a meal and get a taste of things but the real enjoyment is taking time. And a home cooked meal from someone is probably gonna be better than a mass-produced bag of mid most times

Main thing i like anymore is co op games because playing with my friends makes me have so much more fun (project zomboid for example) this week ive been playing a lot of elden ring by myself and having a ton of fun.

I think the largest contributor is the padding. They want people to feel like they got their money's worth for the arguably but not necessarily overpriced game. They are seeking to achieve this by making it take a longer time to beat. Not a good call quality wise to stretch it and atop of that the manner in which they elongate the play time is almost always the most boring ways it is boring squared. Just so many empty entertainment calories

Your audio needs some work. I dunno if it's your mic but there are points where, unless I have the captions on, I have no idea what you're saying.

Games feel boring(for me) because we're older and trying to recapture a time that is long gone. Pandemic gave us a taste of what it was like. No/few responsibilities, just gaming with your friends again (if your friends aren't already occupied with their own families). Gaming might be boring but the best feeling is showing a cool game to a little kid. So lucky i have my two little brothers. Great video!

I have no shade towards Tales of Arise, it really did look like a turning point for the series. But it really is interesting to me that Arise grabbed you and Xenoblade 3 was a pass. I not only did 80+ hours of that game, I ended up streaming the main story and hero quest for my friend immediately after beating it. And I still like Xeno 2 and X better than it.

yeah no if you have a checklist just to finish it of cource you wont have fun playing it. It sounds way more like a job instead of playing and enjoying it. Why not play the games that seem interesting to you?
