NEW MOUNTAIN BIKE DAY & TEST RUN - Is Buying New In Today's Market Smart? | Whistler BC

What a crazy summer it has been so far! I think we can all agree this is the craziest start to a year ever, and that's including the year that wiped out the dinosaurs.
So in roundabout way I guess I am getting at physically and mentally the sinews are straining and I am desperate for an outlet. It is extremely fortunate that Whistler is a world class mountain bike destination (it was recently voted as "Your MTB Capital of the World" in a PinkBike poll). Well I am stretching to say Whistler (it was Whistler, North Shore, Squamish and Pemberton), but you can see why it would win when you consider Squamish and Pemberton and amazing in their own right. Not including Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island, and plenty of other amazing locations within a 3-4 hour drive, it really is incredible how much terrain is available.
Just a note for anyone interested mountain biking has been a passion of mine from a young age, entering races at 14 in the UK (NAMBS) and in 2011-13 had a Whistler Bike Park ans regularly bike stupid stuff on my GT DHi w Monster T's (real beast). In the last ten years I have been focusing on snowboarding and been limit injuries and the financial impact biking can have, but I have started to realize that it's an itch that I have to scratch, and this summer is set up for biking.
Huge interest in biking with lockdowns and less people going abroad for holiday, had left the local second hand market overly competitive in prices. As one of the locals said, "any other year and a second hand bike can be a good deal, but not this year."
That brings me to what could be the best or worst, but definitely the most expensive decision I have made in the last year. What better idea than drop all your money on a new bike with all the economic uncertainty we have, but it already feels like the right today.
Introducing the Norco Sight A2, a new redesigned bike that nudged it from more of an all mountain design last year to a more enduro based, slacker head tubes, buffed up suspension etc. After consulting my bike advisors, watching some reviews online, and reading my horoscope; the 'big change' was realised.
Comor Sports in Whistler stocks Norco and I have worked with them over the last couple years, notably @scubert_art with snowboards and it seemed like the obvious place. They also stock Specialized and Rocky Mountain (of which the Altitude was an option I was looking at). Full disclosure they did give me a small discount.
So with bike in hand and a break in the weather the next day I head up the Flank Trail in towards Lower Howler (black diamond). Maybe not the best run choice, its my first proper ride of the year and on a new bike. Riding in semi-controlled manner close to 80% or so I was about as close to the edge as I wanted to get. I scouted all the technical sections as I was setting up the cameras which really helped.
It seems the summer of biking is here
Are you getting back into mountain biking or something similar? Personally I think it's of upmost importance to my health that I have something like this, but I an addiction junkie at heart.
ON A SIDE NOTE: I will start to cover the 2020/21 lineup of snowboards when we are able to get our hands on them. As the weather clears we are hoping to get up to a few spots we scouted to camp and snowboard - the ultimate bizarro summer combo. Hopefully within the next week or two.
