Disney Princess voice actresses were something else during the 20th century, they were so high pitched yet gave a warm feeling.
We also have our strong vocals im the present time ofc

The original makes me feel like there's a longing to be "part of that world, " but you can hear the acceptance of it possibly not ever happening! This new version gives Ariel a different set of emotions, where she knows she may never be "part of that world, " but she is clearly going to fight for it!!! Both beautiful and very fitting for the character.

The original is so soft, delicate and welcoming especially in the world part.

I just love that Jodi Benson has been so loving and supportive to our young Halle. It's rare that two hearts of gold are so cosmically connected.

Ariel was uncertain about the human world, but very curious. The original voice portrayed that feeling really well.😊

The new girl sounds beautiful but as a kid who sang this all the time, I love the original!!!

The original almost makes Ariel feel smaller and unsure, likely because of volume difference, but I can't deny how beautiful Halle Bailey's voice is

I don’t think either is better or worse. Each one captures a different perspective and mood.
The original was more subdued, like she has a secret she’s trying to hide. Deep in her cavern, she’s sings of a deep longing for a a world that’s impossible to maintain. It’s more painful and your heart hurts for her because she believes she will always be trapped in her longing.
But in the new one, the vocals are not restrained. She longs for something but she has a bit more determination to somehow achieve her dream. She cares less about who may hear her because she knows that the world she longs for will be hers. It’s more of a declaration than a dream.
I really love both versions depending on my mood. They did beautifully!

i feel like halles version is very mermaid esc. like shes luring sailors in with her voice while the original is more airy and coming from the heart. like ariel is almost asking to be a human. its so sweet and clear

I like the dramatic pause, I feel like this song wasn't made to just sing around but you must act it, I've heard a bit of the Halle version and it feels like singing around while Jody Benson's is a more musical theatre type of singing, feeling what she says, expressing her desire and having such an emotional charge in it, making us empathize with her and her main motivations (meeting the human world and be part of it)

I LOVE the original, but was listening to the soundtrack on Spotify on the way home from work, and kept getting goose bumps from Halles voice 😍

It’s not a competition. They’re both amazing performances. Both movies can co exist.

The pause before World in the animated version makes it better, and her voice is really soothing

Love them both sooo much. What I liked about the 2023 version, is that it sounded more real. What I like about the 1989 version is that Ariel's voice sounds so soft and beautiful.
