This is the first introduction to calculus. In this lecture, you will learn what is a function, why functions are important and what role it plays in calculus. You will also learn the concept of domain, range and how a function can be represented using algebraic expressions, graphs. A function, also, has to pass through what is called a vertical line test. This video, will teach you what is a vertical line test and how it looks when it is plotted graphically.

Thank you professor for this wonderful explanation. For a beginner, functions can seem very easy and basic but if you go deep into it, you find that a function is defined in many ways which is a bit confusing. Sometimes it is a set of ordered pair, sometimes it is an algebraic expression containing some variable, sometimes it a rule that associates values of one set to that of another, sometimes it is a machine that takes an input and produces an output. Being a 11th grade student, I was confused by so many definitions of a single concept. This video certainly helped.
