The Taliban has gained control over Afghanistan after U.S. troops were withdrawn from the region to end the nearly 20-year war.

President Joe Biden said Monday that he would not pass the war on to a fifth president to oversee. Despite the chaos, he said he stands by his decision to remove American troops. On Tuesday, Jake Sullivan, the U.S. national security advisor, spoke at the daily White House press briefing. Sullivan says Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are being briefed by national security teams on the status of evacuation efforts in the area. He also says teams are laser focused on monitoring and preventing activity from terrorist groups, including ISIS.
