German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union party (CDU) has lost ground in two state elections on Sunday, stymied by the slow distribution of coronavirus vaccines and legislators embroiled in an alleged mask corruption scandal.
In September voters will pick Merkel's successor in a nationwide election.
Exit polls and a partial vote count suggest the Social Democrats and Green Party are on track to become the main winners.

Al Jazeera’s Dominic Kane reports from Berlin, Germany.

She didn’t suffer heavy losses... the nationalist party suffered heavy losses... but obviously this doesn’t seem to be a catchy header

I'm not sure if the voites are for SPD and Greens, but more against CDU. If true, this will lead to more fatal disapointments later on, as the general line of politics will not be change after the elections at all.
