okay now what we're going to
talk about today is eternal life and
Jesus go to
gather if you don't want Jesus then you
can't have eternal life because he is
he's the source he's the one who gives
it okay so you know people who say I
want to go to heaven when I die but I
don't want to follow Jesus that doesn't
even really make sense that's like me
saying I don't want to be thirsty but I
don't want to drink water okay if if
we're in this room and this is the only
source that's going to help me not be
thirsty and I say oh I'm so thirsty and
you say well here you go here have some
water and I'm like no I don't want it I
just don't want to be thirsty but I
don't want to drink the water okay
that's like people who say I don't want
to be thirsty for eternal life I want to
be in a place forever where I have no
suffering but I don't want Jesus okay
that's like it's kind of ridiculous to
think about but this is what people do
they don't want to turn to Jesus like
these people that were reading about
they were very religious people they
wanted to hold on to their religion but
they did not want Jesus they rejected
him they want to have eternal life but
they don't want Jesus and Jesus is
telling them hey I am I'm I'm the source
I'm the bread I'm the one who gives
eternal life if you don't have me then
you don't have eternal life okay so
let's start reading here in John 6 we
started reading this two weeks ago but
I'm going to kind of review because it's
very important we understand what Jesus
is telling them here
keep in mind Jesus is talking
spiritually here he's not talking about
real bread that you eat and
the rest of the chapter that we're going
to read most of these people are getting
confused because they keep thinking he's
talking about something that you
actually eat with your mouth that will
give you eternal life and so when he
says you need to eat my flesh and drink
my butt my blood to have eternal life
they're like ooh gross no he's not
talking about physically with our mouth
he's talking about we receive him
spiritually when we received Jesus into
our life then we're given eternal life
that never ends okay this is a spiritual
thing this is not physically well we
will have a physical body in heaven one
day okay
but he's talking spiritually here we
have to remember this okay so verse 35 I
start at the top jesus said to them I am
the bread of life whoever comes to me
shall not hunger and whoever believes in
Me shall never thirst so he's using
language to help us understand just like
your body is hungry
here okay but physically when we get
hungry that means our stomach is empty
right it needs to be filled and we get
hungry and we get weak and we don't have
strength to move and walk we have to
have food every day just to live okay
spiritually Jesus is saying just like
food and water arts our soul our spirit
our hearts who we are what we're empty
without God we can try to put all kinds
of things in our life to fill that
emptiness inside that we know everyone
knows this we know we're thirsty inside
some of you you you you don't know Jesus
yet and so you're looking you're trying
to fulfill your happiness inside you you
feel like well if I could get a better
job a better employer who will pay on
time who will pay me more money if I can
just get to this place or get to that
place then I'll be happy because inside
you're trying to find really what only
God can give you and that's himself he
can only feel that that emptiness in our
hearts
