U.S. v. Trump: The Big Lie on Trial

Former President Trump has been indicted in both federal and Georgia state courts for conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Something larger than Trump will be on trial — the Big Lie of a “stolen” election. Trump didn’t act alone. A web of pundits, elected officials, and media outlets propelled misinformation and baseless conspiracy theories. They stoked distrust in our electoral system, instigating an insurrection.

The indictments will echo through American democracy for generations. The outcomes of the cases will affect voting rights, racial justice, executive powers, checks and balances, and so much more. On Wednesday, August 23, join us virtually at 3 p.m. ET to hear Brennan Center and NYU legal experts discuss the cases and their implications.

I love the tone and depth of this discussion. Reason is so refreshing these days and on this subject.

Constitution says only state legislatures can change voting laws not freaking partisan judges and secretaries of states.

Is there a way I can watch the whole program? I'm 91 years old and had electricians here working on a problem so I forgot to check in until near the end.

He didn't lose the election. The media covered what was happening at the polling locations, and also what happened afterwards when votes were being counted. Ruby Stevens b^)(

I gave you the benefit of the doubt. The fact you started the conversation with the "Big Lie" was concerning.
I looked up your organization, and you are a liberal progressive organization. That doesn't necessarily mean you are biased, but it's clear you are.
Alan Dershowitz is someone whose politics I don't agree, but he's fair, an expert in constitutional law, and has said this is political persecution. I respect the price he's paid personally for speaking truth and being unbiased.

The two sides are opposing each other. Both can not be right. Whom do YOU trust?

It sounds like you lawyers don’t even know how to deal with law. It’s not hard to tell what an insurrection looks like or is an action it has already been defined. And it’s obvious that it’s the law and judges. But in the constitution, the Two reason why they weren’t specific was because one when an insurrection was expected to happen, there was a full blown out, war expected. And when chaos happens, it’s hard to find time in the law to stop an insurrection by prosecuting people as they’re doing the insurrection. So the point was to whatever means stop the insurrection and throw those responsible in jail right away. And because of that, there would be no amount of judges on hand to deal with this big mess. And you have to do what we have to do in order to stop our democracy from being torn down. And the second reason is at the signing of our constitution, we hoped that we had amended our differences and there would be no need to ever have to worry about our constitution or a democracy to be to be at Jeopardy. So because we are more involved country due to reality, science and facts, we use laws to prosecute people for insurrection before you do something to them long-term. And immediately when an insurrection has been proven to have taken place, which people have already been convicted of insurrection, so we all know it took place. And did Donald Trump aid the insurrection, or insurrectionist in any way? And if so, in the constitution states you cannot, and should not have the ability to participate in positions of authority and local, state and federal governments. Anybody who participated in the insurrection, that everybody who owns a TV in this world, watched with our own two eyes, and heard with our own two ears, should not have the ability to participate, and any government or any power of authority, and should be charged with a federal crime that should come with a punishment of not being able to vote for five years just like felons have to.

Going forward regardless of the indictments and/or outcome the 14th Amendment in the Constitution regarding Insurrection he also doesn't have to be proven he incited it, he's already guilty for taking an oath to uphold the Constitution (all of it) and then aids in the Insurrection...cut and dry. It's up to Secretaries of State to not put his name on the ballot period. How difficult is that to implement. Go ahead with your indictments but no name on the ballot should also be implemented.
