Intro to the SMITH CHART (EE)

#electricalengineering #smithchart In this video, we take a quick look at the Smith Chart and some of its applications (most of instruction given in this video is assuming you know a little bit about transmission line theory). I review a few concepts from transmission line theory and relate the Smith Chart to the complex plane in order to provide some basic intuition for how to read various parts of the chart. I also do an example problem where I plot the normalized load impedance and use that to find the reflection coefficient at the load. Concepts such as the meaning of the prime center, the unit circle, the reflection coefficient at the load, the magnitude and phase of gamma, as well where you can find short and open circuits on the Smith Chart are also explained briefly. Keep in mind, this is a fairly brief video and doesn't cover VSWR nor Stub Matching solutions. I hope you enjoy the video!
