When I took over a business years ago and the previous owner had left, I tried to keep his prices consistent to make the transitions with the customers smooth. There were plenty of people who would come in saying, “the old guy used to charge me $X.” At first, I’d trust them, give them the lower price, then call the old guy and found out I got scammed. I put a stop to that real fast.

I did something similar at the first pharmacy I worked for. The owner had so many returned checks and felt she couldn't do anything about it. I called the collections agency and found out what the best practices and rules were. I tossed the ones we couldn't do anything about because of how much time had lapsed. Then I got to work sending out letters notifying the customers of their returned checks. I believe we recovered over 90% of those funds within 2 weeks and had a lot fewer issues after that. She was even able to take her first vacation in 20 years after we implemented some planning and communications with customers.

I used to have a vet that did payments for bills over $200 for 3-4 months. I had to change to charity vet bc other people didn't comply with their payments like they should. They messed it up for the rest of us who actually paid. Old vet got bought out by new vet bc they lost all their loyal low income clients that used the payment function who actually always paid all their bills.
