The German Chancellor's New Year Address

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has issued an upbeat message to the German people in her annual New Year's message. The chancellor called for individuals to take a lead in achieving success for the nation.

THE POWER OF STORYTELLING

IS COMPLAINING ENOUGH?

Making life more human is a challenge; an African farmer learned through firsthand experiences. One day, a chilly morning, as he walked down toward his farm, he spotted a nest on a little tree there. As the nest seemed to be shaking a bit; it arose his curiosity. Then, he discovered there was a baby bird. How long it was left alone, he wondered. He looked around but saw any other bird in perspective, unfortunately. Meanwhile, the baby bird kept on shivering. Watching it shivering so sadly triggered his compassion. Thus, out of compassion, the farmer took the baby bird and kept it warm in his hand. And right away, it stopped shivering.
Subsequently, the farmer began to feel embarrassed and guilty. How long he is going to put up with this situation. He has his own commitments. He appeared to lament that the incident was not part of his today's agenda. But, at the same time, his conscience kept on congratulating him quietly.
Speaking to himself, and without his knowing, he moved closer to one of the cows sitting in the farm backyard. Scared probably, the cow feared for its life and pooped in the process; before it runs away. All of a sudden, the farmer's eyes brightened with joy and relief; and he grinned. He appeared to have a better idea; and his subsequent actions proved it: "My beloved baby bird, I am relieved and happy to realize that the warmth which emanates from this fresh cow manure will help you as well as my hand did. Thus, be welcomed and enjoy your day, " the farmer said. He dug a little hole in the cow manure and put the baby bird in there, carefully. Then, he murmured:"you are safe, now".
 But, how could the farmer imagine that he was making it an easy prey for a young eagle. The young eagle watched the whole event; now, it was just hoping to see the farmer go away. So, as soon as the farmer turned his back, the young eagle landed in the cow manure. Consequently, the baby bird fatally found its eternal warmth in the young eagle's stomach.
  Meantime, the farmer looked around and saw the young eagle flying away. Bitterness surrounded his mind. Suddenly, he inferred the tragic END of the baby bird and exclaimed:
1 - The one who PUTS you into trouble, does not necessarily WANT to HURT you.
2 - The one who GETS you out of your trouble, does not necessarily WANT or WISH your WELL-BEING.
3 - And finally, anyone who finds himself or herself in trouble can no longer BE HAPPY.

Actually sad and visibly disappointed, the farmer equated the incident with some human tragedies. Out of compassion, he personified the event and came up with THREE STARTLING OBSERVATIONS:
- The one who SELLS or GIVES you a weapon (GUN), does not necessarily WANT
to HARM you. (1)
- The one who TAKES your weapon (GUN) away, does not necessarily WANT your WELL-BEING. (2)
- And finally, here is the fact. The one who GETS GUNNED DOWN is HURT or GONE forever. GUNS just take their SMILE and more essentially their LIFE away.
Therefore, Africa and the whole WORLD, the GUN ISSUE can no longer be IGNORED and/or TRIVIALIZED. It is just INHUMANE, the farmer lamented as he recalled all the victims of "civil wars" and gun violence.
In substance: LIFE IS SO SACRED NOT TO PROTECT.

Love Merkel. I wish we had her here in the U.S. and not President Obama. Nothing against him as a person, but he is a horrible Politician and President.

The economic politics of Germany might not be friendly for all the other European Countries. Still, Dr. Angela Merkel is undoubtedly a Great Leader and this is obvious even from Bucharest.
