What happened to the bird in this egg?

I came to check on the birds and found that one of the eggs was going to be thrown out of the nest so I took it and wanted to find out what was inside. So I broke the egg open and saw that there was a baby chick that had formed but never hatched.

Fun fact for anyone wondering touching a bird egg doesn’t change the mother’s mind to take care of the egg. The real reason we are told not to touch them is most eggs are very fragile and touching them could lead to the egg breaking.

If someone just do happens to show his video series of him messing with a blue bird (protected species) nest to authorities, and that it resulted in the destruction of all but 33% of the clutch, when the success rate is usually in the mid 80s % wise, I wonder what his criminal charges would be? 👀

Okay after looking at these videos all the way through there is a sadistic/sociopathic element to this. The way this creator just smashed up that egg, regardless of if it was dead already or not, was disturbing. This honestly comes across like a sick social experiment in which the creator gets off on other people being clearly upset at the situation.

that egg could have been incubated if it was thrown out of the nest for a different reason but you just smashed it open
also the constant checking on the baby birds can often scare away the mother so she abandons the nest and ALL the babies will die so next time, observe but dont intervene unless you know what you are talking about

A better way to check if birds egg will or will not watch, is to shine light thru it. For smaller eggs sun will do, for bigger u need like phone light. If u see vains, or generally red color, it is going to hatch

I think this might be entirely your fault for disturbing nesting. Also unnecessary chicken egg - stupid move there. If you EVER wish to watch wild bird nesting just buy camera that you can install in nesting box BEFORE bird would choose to nest there, connect it to wifi and just watch it there. This way you wouldn’t interfere with nature. You screwed up big time.
