Kießling knowing he didn’t score was the best part...

He later said in an interview, that he saw the ball missing the goal but since the ball was in the net eventually and nobody else saw something suspicious he assumed that he just misspercieved it. And i think thats totally believable since its often not easy recognize wether the balls in or outside the net in football

VAR would have missed it anyway and just said “check complete”.

The best part of the story is that Kießling was asked to appear before the court of the dfb and the judge asked "Hello Mr. kießling are you glad the dfb finally invited you" (bc he was a good striker for years in the Bundesliga but rarely made the national team)

Look up for Chilean player Luis "Chiqui" Chavarría's goal playing for Deportes Concepción against Deportes Temuco in 1998. It's a very similar story except for the fact that everyone noticed the ball passing through the outside part of the net,

The opposite of Clive Allen in 1980 where the ball actually went in but hit the stanchion and bounced out, and the ref didn't give the goal. Prob worth doing a video on that one too

The aftermath was crazy. Hoffenheim wanted to replay the match and Leverkusen even agreed. However, the German Football Association decided that they didn't had to replay the game

The sad part is, I think this whole thing messed with Kießling psychologically. He was a consistent scorer until then and was not the same striker afterwards.

This seems also unlikely to happen again but I remember when VAR was just being introduced in the German league and there was a penalty shout right before half time but they called half time anyway then at half time VAR awarded a penalty and the players came out and took the penalty then went back In to finish their break

Fun fact: This no clip glitch was actually patched in the newer versions of football and even got a honorable mention in the 2020 remaster edition.

Something you failed to mention here is that this happened in the 13-14 season where Leverkusen got top 4 by just 1 point, beating out Wolfsburg. Meaning not only did they rob Hoffenheim but also Wolfsburg, who probably would've enjoyed that extra revenue.

The written speak of hoffenheim is just hilarious.
Who doesn't know a defender who says "Nicht so gut" (Not so good) after receiving a goal xD.

This is child’s play. In Portugal, Oct 18 1975, a foggy night in Porto served as cover to ballboy putting the ball in the net after a shot went wide. The goal was (obviously) awarded.

I remember watching this game live on TV and it was impossible to see that anything was off until the replays.
